Unless it was for a magazine or something I don't see that people would want it as it is not a true reflection it's ok to remove the odd spot or blemish but some of the before and after shots looked like completely different people and I don't think that your avarage portrait customer would want/be happy with that it's ok for a bit of fun ( oow I wonder what I would look like if I lost all my facial features ) but I don't see it as a serous tool might just be me

Hi guys I am looking at getting a canon 50mm prime lens but I don't know if I should get the f1.8 at £99 or pay the extra and get the f1.4 at £240
Your thoughts please
Joe.

You might want to consider the Sigma 50mm f/1.4
or the Canon 85mm f/2.8

WOW people never expected such a massive response. Can I start by saying thank you. I like the idea of the 30 day trial but I only have 3 camera shops by me and they are big retailers so doubt they would allow this. I am looking to get a 50mm lens for portrait work so sharpness is probably the key ( someone please correct me if I'm wrong ) and a couple of you have said the f1.8 appears to look sharper and can focus quicker Which would be good with pet portraits. Aarrggg still confused

I liked the 2nd and 4th the best however I have to say I also noticed your avatar picture and I think that it is super composition and a great shot. You should have that framed.

thanks i never payed too much attention to my avatar shot as i didn't think that much of it but its nice to know that some one thinks its nice. thanks for your kind reply

I don’t care for the composition or lighting in the first picture. I agree that if she were off to the side and maybe standing, that it might be more appealing.

I like the second one. The light is a little harsh, but the color and vibrancy is wonderful. It is a more flattering picture of your subject.

I love the action of the dog captured. Focus is wonderful.

I Iike the B & W with the colored toy. Is this soft focused or is it just me?

thanks dude your comments are awesome the third one was set to soft focus as i am still learning and i read some where that portraits of pets are best in soft focus is this true ? some people didn't think it worked putting the blue back in the toy but i was just learning how to do in on ps as a test and i liked it so it stayed.
photo 2 is my favourite, took me about 3-4 shots to get it right but am really happy with it.
i am just starting out have been taking pictures for around 15 years but only started taking it seriously in the past month or two with the addition of my new camera my aim is to start making some money out of it one day.
