I have Desktop system with an ASUS Z170-A motherboard, a CoolerMaster case, and an EVGA Power Supply, assembled by me about 3 years ago. It has been working fine until recently.
When I do power on the surge suppressor, the system doesn’t power on automatically as it used to. I have to manually hit the power button on the system case, it goes to a black screen only, I then have to POWER OFF the system case, then POWER ON again on the system case, it then POWERS ON, but then goes to BIOS (UEFI) every time, I hit F10 in BIOS to save and exit, then it boots normally to Windows...all is good after that. ie. A lot of needless activity before booting to Windows.
So, it appears that if I left the power to the system all the time (from the surge suppressor), I wouldn’t have this problem, but would rather not do that. And for the first 3 years, didn't have to do that.
I did review this with ASUS tech support, and at first they had me update BIOS to the latest, which I did, but that had no effect on the problem....they then wanted me to remove and ship in the mother board to them...I think not. In addition, charges for service is not given until they would look at it. Hmmm!
Any UHHers have an idea why it is going to BIOS first (every time) before getting to Windows? And how possibly to fix that?

A computer ALWAYS boots to the BIOS first. It contains the needed instructions to get the hardware running, then and only then can the OS load. It usually happen so fast you don't notice, odds are your mother board battery is dead or dying and the multiple boots is giving it enough charge that by the second or third boot attempt you can boot normally.
