We are planning a trip to San Francisco & Sonoma the end of March. Looking for suggestions on the great things to see while we're there. We are definitely going to Alcatraz and hope to do the boat ride for the Golden Gate & Bay bridge. It is our first time there and we are staying close to Fishermans warf.
We hope to drive the coast and see some wine country also. Thanks everyone!

I would try the Bay Model in Sausalito, a lot o people don't know about it, even locals, made by the Army corp of engineers many years ago, it's a model of the topography the bay, fascinating. Check on it first it's hours are spotty .

Did you know that if you're an Amazon Prime Member, Amazon provides UNLIMITED Cloud Full Res Photo Storage. I Just dumped over 2,000 NEF files to their cloud. You have limitations on Videos (and probably regular Data Files) But unlimited Photos. I Cant believe it. I Wish I knew about this before the California Wildfires that destroyed my NAS system and every photo I ever took in my life.

Anyhow, I've been a prime member for nearly a year now and never knew of this. Check it out if you're a Prime member.

I've been using MS OneDrive for storage for yrs. As I have the Office 365 subscription I also have a TB+ of storage. ALL my data, is stored there, much encrypted, even my Lightroom backup is there. Makes up grading to a new computer very easy, plus everything is available everywhere.

Nice images. How about some location details. Your heading is like taking some shots of old mining areas like Leadville, or a shot of Pikes Peak, or even the headwaters of the Colorado river and saying old mining town, beginning of a big river, USA, mountain state.
As real estate agents say location location location.

I'm a long-time computer guy around data and big data. It really irritates me when companies label their new functions as A.I. since it is really pattern matching or machine learning. Topaz and Skylum are the worst offenders in my eyes (and I own and use both) but I was really glad to see Pixelmator brought out a new resolution function which they labeled ML Resolution (machine learning). I know, I'm an old fart but I hate marketing spin.

I dislike the term AI in general. It is neither artificial or intelligent. At best I think of them as expert systems, very powerful complex computers and software but not in any way intelligent.
And not artificial either, might no be a biological but definitely not artificial. Mechanical "minds".

Eventually I think there will be fully sentient mechanical minds like Data from Star Trek TNG, and I'm inclined to think it will happen as a result of tangential research then some network will "wake up smart"

I have Desktop system with an ASUS Z170-A motherboard, a CoolerMaster case, and an EVGA Power Supply, assembled by me about 3 years ago. It has been working fine until recently.

When I do power on the surge suppressor, the system doesn’t power on automatically as it used to. I have to manually hit the power button on the system case, it goes to a black screen only, I then have to POWER OFF the system case, then POWER ON again on the system case, it then POWERS ON, but then goes to BIOS (UEFI) every time, I hit F10 in BIOS to save and exit, then it boots normally to Windows...all is good after that. ie. A lot of needless activity before booting to Windows.

So, it appears that if I left the power to the system all the time (from the surge suppressor), I wouldn’t have this problem, but would rather not do that. And for the first 3 years, didn't have to do that.

I did review this with ASUS tech support, and at first they had me update BIOS to the latest, which I did, but that had no effect on the problem....they then wanted me to remove and ship in the mother board to them...I think not. In addition, charges for service is not given until they would look at it. Hmmm!

Any UHHers have an idea why it is going to BIOS first (every time) before getting to Windows? And how possibly to fix that?

A computer ALWAYS boots to the BIOS first. It contains the needed instructions to get the hardware running, then and only then can the OS load. It usually happen so fast you don't notice, odds are your mother board battery is dead or dying and the multiple boots is giving it enough charge that by the second or third boot attempt you can boot normally.

Looking to buy a laptop for studio work and would like some input. What do you recommend?

Just updated my computer to Dell Inspirion 15.6, 4K screen, 16 ram, 512SSD. So far more than enough for what I'm doing, including Solidworks CAD.

List for this is "normally" $1500, I got it $1200. I got mine in a pre-Thanksgiving sale, check sales come and go regularlly and this time of year you should save some.

From personal experience over the years don't get HP, they might seem good out of the box but seem to deteriorate quickly, and HP support sucks
Lenovo are also good, I have 3 of them, but didn't have the $$ for the model I really wanted this time.

This is one of my preserved Paper Wasps. I've had this one since spring and it is holding up quite well. While I had the Frankenstein lens setup on the camera (three lenses connected in series with each other mounted on extension tubes), I wanted to do one more session so here is a study of its compound eye.

Thanks in advance to all who view and for your comments, suggestions, questions and critique.

Great image, really nice depth, that's my question how big of a stack?

Some 30 years ago HP had a reputation of producing superior things electronic: computers, printers, scanners, calculators. They were creative and their stuff lasted. Owing to any other posts elsewhere and some here, I sense the company has changed. It would be interesting to learn wh.

Two words.....Carly Fiorina.

I classify HP in two eras BC and AC, before Carly and After Carly, BC I didn't think twice about HP. my go to for printers, calculators and computers.

AC I don't think twice about avoiding HP. I have an AC computer and printer, the computer is a lemon, nothing specific just unreasonably slow and slowly dying, HP didn't care and because it wasn't anything specific blamed to operator. printer wireless connection is intermittent at best.

Just got a new Dell, be here in a couple of weeks

And Iran is still causing troubles in the Middle East. America doesn't need Saudi oil anymore. Prices should remain stable in America. Hopefully? Politics is also a factor in these incidents.

so the Iranians are causing the trouble? Ever think that maybe the US murdering their duly elected Prime Minister in 1953 and installing a US pet dictator might have something to do with US - Iranian strained relations? Nothing happens in a vacuum.

Just think if the situation was reversed do you think that the US would say , Oh yeah ! we did elect the wrong guy, sorry about that, thanks.

There are very very few countries that the US empire has not threated either militarily or economically , and usually because the were not willing bow down to US demands, whatever they were, and the US considered that a "dangerous thread".
