Doing IR is quite a change! You are doing great. For my tastes, there always needs to be clouds in the sky and no dappled shadows. Make sure to do some focus bracketing because the focus in the view finder is for visible light but the image in IR will have a different focus.

in a few hours, I think I'm going to buy a powerseeker 127eq. I want to get something to test the waters with my smartphone and my Nikon D750. I always chuckle when I see this question in forums where I have a bit of knowledge - Is $125 a good deal?

I used a flash light to find the molting hopper this morning. I think I was about 15 minutes away from seeing the very start. Focusing was quite a challenge with so little light. I took about 50 shots and had about 10 keepers.

Pre-work, pre-coffee, pre-sunrise

I found this one in mid-molt. After the first shots, I cut the blade of grass and moved it to the table. I started to do a time lapse, but Mr. hopper had other ideas and started moving. After it dried gulley, the colors are blue and orange.

I went back for a meal ID, but the jumper was finished and on the hunt again. We seem to have mostly all black ones that I stopped trying to get a good picture of.

Some familiar items in the second shot. I am sitting on our 3rd floor deck.
Nice shots, nice story. Ephemeral describes many mushrooms.
Your mention of the mycellial web underground, it has been likened to the WWW that now exhists.

Oh, the items.

I had better bug hunting when we had a wooden deck like yours. The insects had more places to hide.

Ha ha! I appreciate the deception. That is useful in this hobby sometimes.

I'll try to add some silly story more often!

I needed a big crop on the plant hopper. I saw the jumper just after it caught the wolf spider.
