That Bing Crosby "I'm an Old Cowhand" is a find. It was introduced in "Rhythm On The Range" in 1936.

If you are really interested I would recommend "The Great Courses" series of lectures "TTC 0350 - History of Ancient Egypt" presented by Prof. Bob Brier. It's rather pricey but I understand that many of these lecture series recordings are available in local libraries. I've listened to quite a few while warming up in the gym - the talks run about 30 minutes, give or take, and Bob Brier is a standout! Of course if you have a newsreader you may be able to download many of these for free.

There are so many great recordings of "Rhapsody In Blue" and I own quite a few of them! I suppose I have already told the story of how I first heard the piece at Radio City Music Hall. We arrived for the stage show, then the film, and I asked my mother if we could please stay for another stage show which ended with the "Rhapsody." I was transfixed! And I was about 12 years old!

Keep an eye on GetOlympus. They occasionally have Pen-F bodies for sale at a nice price. Last year I picked up a second body and it looks brand new.

I originally got the information from Seagate technical documentation for their SSD products.

The point here is that the erasure process doesn't update the fat table at all - just replaces it with a new empty one. Much less write activity. This isn't that much of an issue with low volume operations - its much more of an issue when you dealing with server farms and very active databases.

So what's the bottom line? My Olympus cameras offer me a choice when I wipe a card: "All Erase" or "Format." Which is the option that offers less wear on the SD card?

I've been using 100W Daylight LED bulbs by Ecosmart, sold in Home Depot, in all my enclosed fixtures. The earlier version Ecosmarts gave me problems but these newer, and less expensive, ones are fine. They are dimmable and I prefer the white light to the old yellow light incandescents. And the price is right! They are US standard A19 bulbs. Of course I have no idea how long they will last but at the price I really am not concerned.

It turns out that even if you never had chicken pox as a child you may still be in danger of getting shingles. My wife or I never had chicken pox but it was around. Our doctor ordered up blood tests for both of us and we both tested positive for the antibodies. So we both got the shot. It looks like we will have to get the new shots just to be safe.

I use the Epson software that came with the V600. It took a little experimenting to get the settings I like.

To avoid messing with those settings, all my black and white documents get scanned on a different scanner, an HP.

So with the Epson software you can't save multiple setups?

I have been using Vuescan for years with my Epson V700 and also with my Canon FS4000US film scanner. I have no complaints and find it so much better than the supplied software that came with my scanners. Of course, in some cases the supplied software/driver will no longer work with my OS, but Vuescan always will!

I can't compare it to Silverscan as I have never used that program. Vuescan is very flexible. I have setups for scanning prints as DNG files, both color and b&w. I also have setups for scanning documents as PDFs, and many other setups that I have saved for various film types. My most used setups appear on my keyboard's function keys.

I have had no real problems but on occasion when I can't get something right I can get help from Hamrick on what I have been overlooking! I have even given them a hint or two, successfully, on what to include in the next update! They are very responsive.

I use Vuescan everyday to scan docs to save for tax purposes, plus I scan and print the NY Times crossword daily so my wife and I have our own copies to work on! Just about every piece of paper that comes in the household gets scanned and saved.

On the Ohio, you will never see a "tug", they are all pusher, but I've always heard and call them tugs. I had never seen a boat pulling barges till I spend time on the OBX.

As far as I know they are always called tug boats. When they are alongside a barge they are said to be "On the hip." I would suspect that would not be seen on the Ohio because of the restricted space, but is quite common here in NYC.

Nice photo! I live next to the East River in Manhattan and often shoot photos of tugboats working that river. My father worked on the waterfront and I guess I have an affinity with river traffic!

I first read about this in a magazine article about fifty years ago.

My father always read "True" and "Argosy" magazines. I read that article about Oak Island, probably in the early 1960s! I'm sure it was in one of those magazines.

I worked with an assistant director at NBC who was a child growing up in Copenhagen. He told me he remembered seeing the British planes gong overhead on the their way to bomb the Gestapo HQ.

I don't know. If the Russians were being fooled, they might have continued to waste their rockets. Now, thanks the media, they'll be a whole lot more careful. The various fakes the Allies used just before D-Day depended on secrecy to work. Can you imagine what would have happened if the 1944 newspapers ran stories like, "Plywood tanks ensure Nazis misled about impending invasion."

Maybe the point of leaking this info was to get the Russians to stop using there missiles?
