So sorry for your loss, pets just make life better, and when they go they take a piece of our heart with them.

I agree that the name hummingbird moth seems more appropriate! These are beautiful images, I love all of them!

Great images of the dragon flies! Interesting characters they are! There is one that hangs around my dads house and actually plays with the grandkids when they are there by circling them until they chase him, then he has some fun with them! Quite funny to observe!

Great shots! Love the second one of the one mostly on the outside of the hole and the little heart shaped marking on it, like it is trying to look friendly...not!

These are wonderful images! What an improvement some different settings make! I did not comment on your first post because you already had pages of great advice, there was nothing I could add!

How neat! Such pretty, colorful bubbles! Good shots, PeggySue!

Thank you! I was surprised at how colorful bubbles are at night!

Personally speaking, I am not a fan of back button focusing. Some swear it's the best thing since indoor bathrooms, but I still prefer the method I've been using since the beginning of time. You just might be better starting out without it until you have more experience. I feel doing focus/shoot with one finger to be much more efficient and much faster with better result for me. It's a personal thing! Best of luck.

What I like about back button focus is that I can focus on the subject and then meter for exposure with the shutter button without my focus changing. I have found that if I lock focus on my subject I can meter off what I want, be it the sky, or a grey card and recompose and my subject is still in focus (as long as the subject has not moved!). I have gotten used to this and it is hard for me to go back now! But, you are right, it really is a personal choice and either way it takes practice!

It's purely academic now. The OP has a 35 and has learned that technique will resolve the issue.

If you use continuous focus and try to keep it on the eye, that might help. For any moving, or might move object, I use continuous focus. As I said, practice, practice and more practice. Let the FUN begin!

I use back button focus and I forget that if I hold it down for moving subjects that it will continuously focus until I quit pressing it! I really do need to find more time to practice practice practice!
