The Hole in the wall gang

Canon 5D Mark II
Canon 100mm f:2.8 Macro Lens
f:/11 ISO 250 1/200 second
Started with one coming out to see what I was doing, pretty soon I had two and then three.
Time to move before they decided to see if I needed to be stung.
Trimmed for effect but shot at 1:1
Jim

Plus one that is not quite 1:1 for effect.

Thanks, I agree.
They didn't attack and few of them came and went while I was shooting.

You gotta be careful hanging near the nest of paper wasps. They will come out and sting (as I had experienced many years ago). Anyway, they are beautiful, and the species might be Polistes aurifer.

I like the good focus on these shots, they look as if they will be an interesting subject to follow up on, with care of course.

Great shots! Love the second one of the one mostly on the outside of the hole and the little heart shaped marking on it, like it is trying to look friendly...not!

very nice, in the peach orchards in calif. they would attack if you got close ( the meanest paper wasps i have seen) so far the texas wasps are tame compared to them. the ground wasps, hornets, what ever they are, they are meanest of all in every state i have lived in

Thanks Mark,
So far they have been leaving me alone even when I banged on the wall to wake them up..
They came to the hole and looked around to see what the fuss was and trembled a bit but no one came at me.
So far so good.

Thank you very much Brenda.
So far pretty boring but fun to watch when they try to get three out of the same hole at once.
Other than that they ignore me. They come and go while I am shooting and I have only about a six inch work distance.

Thank you Peggysue,
I was wondering how long it would take for someone to mention the heart.
They have been pretty docile although a few years ago I had a family that would come at you if you were within a yard/meter of the nest.

Thank you TB.
I have been pleasantly surprised at how quiet this batch of wasps have been.
I agree about ground wasps. Most of those are pretty darn nasty here as well.
