For my cruise in March I will be taking my D5200 with my 16-85mm lens and also my 55-300 lens. last year I used the 18-55 ans 55-200 lenses and ended up using a 2X extender on the 55-200 to get some wildlife that was out of range for the 200

I have a Tokina 3X AF High Def Digital Telephoto lens that I have used with my Nikon 18-55, 55-200, and 70-300 with No problems at the full zoom of each lens. I know that I have a lot of overlap with these lenses, but I have been in situations where I can only carry one lens (no camera bags allowed) So I pick the lens that will work 75+% of the time and stick the Converter in my pocket for when I may need the additional reach.

I use a ND filter when I need a slower shutter speed when shooting a waterfall or a river flowing of rocks to smooth out the water

I have used my old Canon FL lenses with an adapter on my Nikon D5200 with great results. I shoot in manual mode with the aperture set to the lowest value and then select my shutter speed. I aperture value is then selected on the Canon lens for the picture. Since all of the Canon lenses are prime they range from 1.2 for the 50mm to 3.5 for the 200mm , I also have 85mm and 135mm Canon lenses. It took some time and practice to learn the best way to use these lenses.
