I need some help from your experiences. I recently received a new camera from BH Photo. This is my first order from online. Is the Nikon box for new camera with kit lens SEALED or not? Thanks for sharing your experience in afvance.

Camera boxes typically do NOT come factory sealed. I know that Nikon, Canon, Sony, Pentax, Hasselblad and Olympus definitely do not factory seal their boxes, I suspect the other few brands do not either.

I'm hoping that the distributor verifies that the box contains what it's supposed to before they ship it.

Good move returning it! Without a wax seal imprinted with the logo on Mr Caniks ring he uses to mark each camera then there is no telling what you could have got. Probably an old box camera circa 1960 with a bust lens. Ya just cannot trust these firms that have traded for years building up a solid number of customers who return time and time again to buy their gear. Well done and please enjoy the sting of a restocking fee. Good start to a New Year.

You shouldn't have returned it. Nikon does not seal boxes. I have Nikon DSLR cameras, lenses, and flashes. None of the boxes come sealed. When you called B&H for a return authorization didn't they ask you why you're returning it? The customer service representative should have said something about it.

Funny, but I just read an article about Nikon not sealing its boxes. Almost every other product I've received has come in a sealed box. Maybe cost-cutting can go too far.

SEALED? HOW? Like sealed in tape, paper, what? I am confused. I have bought NIKON for over 50 years and all of their boxes have never been wrapped in anything. Usually when a person refers to a sealed box it is a box that has never been opened before by anyone. So, to answer your question, all of my junk that I buy from B&H comes in a sealed box, ie. the box is opened by me first. But it is not technically sealed and anyone COULD have opened it before me. SOMETIMES the retailer will open the box to make sure the serial number on the camera matches the serial number listed on the box. I am not sure B&H does this before shipping but I doubt it, they sell a ton of junk. But usually I get a virgin camera, I think. The word junk here is used loosely to describe a variety of quality products I get from B&H, it does not infer the junk I get is junk.

Nikon does not seal their boxes and never have. The Sony and Canon cameras I have purchased didn't have seals either. Too bad you didn't google this before returning but now you know. Have a Happy New Year.

Not if it's from B&H!

A new camera should be in a sealed box. An open box to me is an open box, not a new camera. An open box mandates a lower price and many times it is called refurbed.
B&H is a reputable dealer. If I buy a new camera from them and the camera comes to me in an open box I immediately will contact them requiring an explanation.
I will not accept an open box unless a decent discount is offered.
