Chuck,

Hello Rob, Firstly, I have previously purchased a so called refurbished product from Nikon and was totally satisfied. I have no ill feelings toward the corporation.

You have completely contradicted the two experiences in my post. Where do you get your information and how can you substantiate it? Can you explain the two experiences that I recently had while purchasing a refurbished Nikon product? In the event you did not read my post, it is directly previous to yours.

The first D750 body had been serviced and marked too indicate so. Why then did it arrive DOA? The second was sold as refurbished and yet did not receive the service that the NikonUS indicates it is in need of.

If what you stated were true, either of the bodies I received would have worked fine and not needed a further servicing, yes?

I sold one last year for $350.00, so the price is a steal.

Nikon will have done the refurb and the camera will be very close to a 10 rating on a 10 scale. I wouldn't be overly concerned about the shutter count after a Nikon refurb.

I have recently had these experiences with the purchase of a refurbished Nikon D750: The first one was purchased directly from Nikon USA website, it was dead on arrival, would not power up, and there was a dot in the plate mounting screw hole (indicating that it was serviced for a known issue). The second was purchased from B&H website, it is included in the shutter service advisory but has not been serviced, 899 shutter count.

So, in my experience, the term refurbished is broadly used and does not guarantee that it has seen any type of inspection.

Get the insurance you want.
There are lots of policies out there. Check around.
Pat

During most of my adult life, I have been covered by plans through employment. After taking early retirement with an acceptable pension, I shopped around and purchased a health care plan that fit my needs. After 4 years without a claim, the rate increases were similar in percentage as described in my original posting so I cancelled. Each year, health care insurers raise rates above and beyond the rate of inflation. Driven by greed, they set rates as high as they possibly can and divvy the higher profits to the executives. I chose to go without health care insurance. It should be my decision, yes? Until the ACA came into the picture.

Just like home owners and auto insurance, I am one who helps to support everyone else as my lifetime claims are minimal. The home owners and auto do not increase in such leaps and bounds.

These increases in health care insurance premiums on a fixed income citizen.

From 2014 to 2015, an increase of 60%.
From 2015 to 2016, an increase of 17%.
From 2016 to 2017, an increase of 55%.

The net increase from 2014 to 2017 is 288%. The free market health care industry can kma. I, as a single old fart, would be fine with any test or treatments of the 1970's. My last visit to a health care unit 5 years ago was for a belly ache. I explained to the attending doctor that I pay out of pocket so use the cheapest testing possible. $6,400 later, the diagnosis of kidney stones, a prescription, and a wave goodbye.

Maybe it would be best to pay the tax penalty and go uncovered. Stinkin suns o britches.

That's a good chunk of gear for $355, even without the plates. Pretty sure both heads accept Arca-Swiss?

Cripes, I have a half dozen plates laying on the shelf, thought most photo nuts had plenty.

I have been offered $1750 locally from craigslist. If a member here would like this camera and lens for $1800 delivered, I will give the member first option. If not, I have agreed to make the local deal at 10:00 AM, Monday 10/10/2016.

Thanks for your response. I will pass on that, actually the body is added to the lens as an enticement. You can purchase the kit and unload the lens if you don't fall in love with it. They are both excellent pieces.

Maybe a shot to my foot but a heads up to shoppers of these items.

For anyone shopping a Sigma Sport, they can be had from Sigma as a refurb. Hit or miss when shopping for a Nikon mount.

Those shopping for a D7200 can find the refurbs at Adorama.

Are any of these the edible kind?

On the aspect of edible, I am clueless. Never had a desire for mushrooms after the first taste, on my palette it is similar to freshly tilled soil.
