These increases in health care insurance premiums on a fixed income citizen.

From 2014 to 2015, an increase of 60%.
From 2015 to 2016, an increase of 17%.
From 2016 to 2017, an increase of 55%.

The net increase from 2014 to 2017 is 288%. The free market health care industry can kma. I, as a single old fart, would be fine with any test or treatments of the 1970's. My last visit to a health care unit 5 years ago was for a belly ache. I explained to the attending doctor that I pay out of pocket so use the cheapest testing possible. $6,400 later, the diagnosis of kidney stones, a prescription, and a wave goodbye.

Maybe it would be best to pay the tax penalty and go uncovered. Stinkin suns o britches.

My agent has said some of his clients are doing just that. Lower premiums and paying penalties, cheaper than complying with affordable health care.
Get the insurance you want.
There are lots of policies out there. Check around.

I completely share your sentiments. This year I saved $500 per month on premiums for my wife and me by getting the same coverage from private insurer vs Obamacare. The penalty of 2% of my income will not come close to $6000 so I do feel I am fighting the system.

The fundamental core reason for the high premiums was the failure of Congress to take the profit out of health care in the ACA law. Congress was well aware of how many of the developed countries figured out how to do so that was consistent wirh their individual mores. From England's government 'does all' to Germany's 'do insurance.' To learn what Congress knew read T.R. Reid's "The Healing of America." Both the insurance and pharmaceutical industries knew what those countries did and knew exactly how to criple the ACA. To understand insurance part, read William Potter's "Deadly Spin." To understand the ACA drafting and shaping process, read Steve Brill's "America's Bitter Pill."

Some political candidates, presidential and conressional speak of amending ACA to 'single payer' would not take theprofit out of health care.

Under our current system, should you get sick you must pay a fee to some investment coupon clipper before seeing a doctor. What if our soldiers, marines, airmen and sailors said pay me first and then I will shot, strafe and bomb those invading hordes.

We understand that you have very little brain capacity. Thats why you need to take your meds and go back to sleep. That way you will be well rested and may even be able to feed yourself tomorrow.

Isn't it curious that Obama delayed the implimentation of the ACA untill his second term. He knew that he woud not be re-elected otherwise. The ACA was designed to fail of it's own weight--it was a brideg to a single payer, whih I hpoe will never happen

Getting down to fundamentals, what do you have against universal health care. Why is universal health care contrary to this nation's values as expressed in the historical documents of this nation. Or is it a matter of 'if everybody gets it, I'll have to wait to get mine.'

There is NO right in the Constitution for health care.

Pat

During most of my adult life, I have been covered by plans through employment. After taking early retirement with an acceptable pension, I shopped around and purchased a health care plan that fit my needs. After 4 years without a claim, the rate increases were similar in percentage as described in my original posting so I cancelled. Each year, health care insurers raise rates above and beyond the rate of inflation. Driven by greed, they set rates as high as they possibly can and divvy the higher profits to the executives. I chose to go without health care insurance. It should be my decision, yes? Until the ACA came into the picture.

Just like home owners and auto insurance, I am one who helps to support everyone else as my lifetime claims are minimal. The home owners and auto do not increase in such leaps and bounds.

But <Gasp> that would mean that Congress would have to work with the President. Instead, House Republicans spent, collectively, $75 million trying to repeal it.
