That was the old story about the Olympus 300mm f/2.8.

All I can say is, the wait is most definitely worth it.

I agree completely. They'll pry mine from my cold, dead hands.

Plus when you pre-order, your card doesn't get charged till the item ships. If you change your mind, you can cancel at any time, or sell it for a markup if they're still hard to come by. Which they will be.

That's fine...not fine for OM-D...but still fine.

However...

Recommending it to others as a viable way forward...is not fine...unless they don't care about having the latest things...micro is at a stand still...OM-D is in a coma.

We'll see...

I'm not selling anything...but you are still uninformed on the issue...or should I say...you see only the marketing side.

I am not about to put together the actual business portfolio layering that has gone on with OM-D.

But I did see someone post about it a while back on another forum...and the guy nailed it correctly.
Has all the ducks in a row properly...he understands the business side of it.

If I find it...I'll post it.

But all one has to do is look up the financial specifics...and find out what I said is 100% accurate...100%.

Meanwhile, we Olympus/OM owners are happily enjoying our fantastic systems, which which will still be providing us with years of satisfaction whether the company survives or not.

That lens is extremely hard to come by. I'll never let mine go unless my AMD gets to the point I just can't shoot anymore. Last I heard there was about a one year waiting list if you could even get on it. A fellow Oly shooter I met in SC told me that he heard that they were built by hand and only had one guy who could build them. Take that with a grain of salt.

Meanwhile, the OM1 is a superb camera, and the 100-400 is a VERY capable lens. Take a look on mu43 for examples . I posted an "Impressions and review" thread over there a couple years ago. I had that lens while I was waiting for my 150-400.

Best wishes foir your search, but don't hold your breath waiting for a 150-400.

I use OP/TECH products and find them very comfortable and secure. I prefer the "Dual Harness." It can easily be configured to support two cameras, one left and one right; or one camera (left, right, or center). It is a two-point anchor system, one at each carry lug. I like having the tripod mount free.

I have paired the OP/TECH dual harness with the PEAK DESIGN Anchor links. I find this the easiest, fastest, safest disconnect system available.

I carry a D500 and D810, and sometimes one or two Bronica GS-1 (medium format) cameras without fear or fatigue.

How do those interface with OpTech? I looked them up and they look like a proprietary connector?

So an iPhone can do 16x24, that’s good to know Fstop. Thanks. Out of curiosity, what is the approximate viewing distance?

People can get WAY too hung up about print size. A 75" 4K TV is about 8 Megapixels. The iPhone 14 Pro is 48 megapixels. You can print as big as you want. Don't listen to pixel peepers.

I can't help you with your question, but I figure if I have to carry attachments for my Mobile Phone I may as well just take my Canon R series with a 24-105mm lens (or 24-240mm).
I did take this picture with my Galaxy 23 Ultra, hand held about 20 feet way.

It's not an attachment. It's built in.

I shoot a LOT of egrets here in SC, and I've found my best results happen when i expose for the white bird to stay white, without blowing out the highlights. (expose for the bird).

Since you don't have a mirrorless where you can see in advance what your exposure will be, you may want to spot meter the bird and play with how much over-exposure you need to get it white, but with all the details in the feathers. Starting with the bird at 18% gray, or purewhite, makes it virtually impossible to get the dertail right.

You are doing great, and will enjoy the journey. sounds like you are well on the way to ditching the jpegs altogether!

This is a critical question for me. I do want a significant improvement in IQ and not hearing that a long reach lens on the OM-1 IQ will “wow” me has been the number one reason I have not pulled the trigger

If you wanted a rig where you could crop a long distance bird or whale image taken from a ship to fill the frame and have great IQ. What would you pick?

Or, will the OM-1 wow me?

Maybe a full frame with a $20,000 lens that weighs eleven pounds?

Seriously, the naysayers on m43 probably haven't used a 100-400 Oly--NOT Panasonic-, or the 300mm f/4, which are very highly regarded. Remember, you can do 50 MP Hi-res shots handheld, or 80 MP on a tripod if you want. (Not recommended for moving subjects, of course.)

Nothing is perfect, and you have to decide for yourself. Why not go to mu43 dot com and look at some of the galleries? It's a very friendly site, and tons of info on 4//3. I started a thread there on the 100-400 which has lots of images on it if you're interested:

He will according to posters here who have both. 20 megapixels is more than plenty for very large prints. I have 30x40 prints from m4/3, all pre OM-1. If you don't know how to focus or compose, or understand exposure, no amount of megapixels is going to help. .

#"Twenty is Plenty".

The only thing you give up is shallow depth of field, which is a plus or a minus depending on your needs, and a couple stops of usable high ISO. But OLY has the best IS in the business, so you can get away with slightly lower shutter speeds. And how high an ISO do you need in a travel camera?

I have nothing against the larger formats, except size, weight, and exorbitant cost. But saying m4/3 hasl ousy image quality is just silly.

OM-1 is a great camera, I agree. Very few ILC cameras has built-in BD filter, Live Composite, IP53 certified weather sealing, excellent IS etc. but on the other hand it only has a 20MP tiny MFT sensor. High ISO is no match with larger sensors.

MFT came a long way except the image quality, and the OP is asking if he is going to see a big improvement in IQ, and my opinion is 'No, he won't see much improvement'.

You wont see a big improvement with OM-1's MFT sensor compared to RX10's 1-inch sensor, high ISO is average at best. At least go for an APS-C or Full Frame sensor camera. I used Olympus and Panasonic MFT's hated the image quality.

OP wants something less bulky and heavy than APS-C of FF. Plus very few of those have the features he wants, and none of them have all of them, like the OM-1 does.

And m4/3 has come a long way, baby! If you can't get great images from an OM-1, it's not the camera...

Yeah, I was being silly. I had some issues like that recently--balance, and lack of depth perception due partly to AMD, climbing 1500 feet up to the top of the mesa on a canoe/camping trip in the loswer canyons of the Rio Grande.

Much of the problem was discovering how out of shape I was!

Any wasy, all the best.
