Bruce, thanks for the comeback and the great tip. I've got a former computer whiz who thinks he might be able to walk me through, but it's good to have a alternate plan. And your book suggestion will be my "go to" if all else fails. Really appreciate you getting back to me....Thanks again! Jim

Thanks for your prompt reply and I will, indeed, follow-up on your suggestion. I'm confidant if I ever get LR working properly before I commit harry-carry, I'll love it. Thanks again for the input.

I'm hopelessly mired down in downloading/organizing LR5 and after following suggestions, reviewing demos, B&H instructions and so forth and so on, I'm even deeper into LR5 chaos. I've downloaded photos, but now can't find them, much less pull them up....have tried 5 or so tutorial tapes on Lightroom which have only added to the confusion....my screen never matches the screen on the B&H tutorial, or the procedure they're showing doesn't work for me..... Nothing makes sense and I'm to the point where I need some one-on-one or limited class size instruction from Step One on in LR5.

That being said, does anyone know of a Dallas-Ft. Worth source for basic tutoring in LR5....preferably one-on-one where I an sit down with my computer, the LR5 program and a knowledgable individual to guide me through. I feel once I get through importing and cataloging, I'll be OK in applying the bells and whistles of LR5, but right now, once I get photos into LR5, they're lost. And I'm sure this is ALL user error. HELP!

Unlike some, I am not brand loyal. If a better technology presents itself that I can afford, I have no problem abandoning ship and switching. The problem for me is that the benefits to switch have to be quite evident. I agree with you; the Sony A77 is an amazing camera. If I were in the market for a new tool, this would be a serious consideration---no question. The other issue is being comfortable and familiar with the tool you already own---especially for some of us "older" (AARP) folks. Change doesn't come easy. We resist it every chance we get, to a fault.

This is certainly evident as an engineer... for example, I still use an old Reverse Polish Notation (RPN) HP 11C calculator. Gosh, how many years old is this thing now? Then I see these young engineers right out of college using calculators that support graphs and spreadsheets---wow. However, at the end of the day, "our" work gets done the same. Perhaps it took me a little longer to get the same result as my younger counterparts, but the final product is the most important thing... Perhaps some can argue this point? The process is the key... :-)

To me photography is like that too. Will my final prints from the Sony look noticeably better than prints from my Canon after all the PP is said and done? Perhaps it will, but I need more proof on paper, not a small LCD or an image on a hi-res monitor. Again, I've shot the Sony before, and it is truly amazing, but not amazing enough to switch "yet". Just my opinion.

Very valid points made there Mark. And I don't disagree on any. In fact, my entry into "Sony world" was no so much a conscious move as it was an opportunity that became available, at the right time and at the right price. And I guess my main reason to post on Sony was to stress that if you're going to make a move, for whatever the reason, should one go with Sony, it's a good move.

Cholly's got a very valid point. As a Nikon shooter for over 40 years, I've just purchased a Sony A77 as a backup, and it's slowly becoming my "go-to" camera for a variety of reasons. And I feel I'm losing nothing in the transition from one camera to the other.

What is the purpose of a 365 Project? To prove to the world that you can take an acceptable photograph you are willing to share?

I suggest that a 365 Project is a growth opportunity for the individual and not to prove anything to the world. If a day is missed, big deal, it's missed. This project allows an individual to expand skill and knowledge.

We all experience lulls in creativity and motivation. It's okay to take a few days off then pick up again. Just remember it's done for you and not for the masses.

I'm in total agreement with you, and I've decided that starting on my birthday (which is tomorrow), I'm starting a 365 Project. And if it lasts 200 days, fine! If it becomes burdensome after 63 days, fine! If I miss some consecutive daily postings, fine! Or if I scrap it after 10 days, that'll be fine, too. But if I make it through to fruition, Good for Me!!!!!!

I'm hoping that I'll get so committed to it, that I'll start to realize the aforementioned benefits of the project as cited by some of my fellow "Hoggers".

Almost everything I've read on " A Picture A Day" goal has turned into absolute drudgery for most people who've become engaged in such a project. Therein is the reason I've not committed to such an ambitious undertaking. A tip of the hat to you, Jerry for making it as far as you did.......

Thanks for the tip. Probably should just go ahead and switch to DVD's since my inventory of CD's is dwindling. And while I'm at it, I'm open to other avenues of slideshow production and distribution. Thanks for your prompt note. It's very much appreciated. Jim

Attempting to burn IPhoto slideshow to CD and all attempts disastrous. Never had this problem before. Tried, per Apple's usual confusing instructions, to pull a disk, but nothing's working. Time to go to the straight-forward "pros" at the Hog. Any you Apple users got a formula for me to get Iphoto Slide show with music background burned on to a CD (not DVD)? Thanks.

Love my new Sony A77 but I'm obviously missing a setting in that there is constant auto-focus activity with this camera. It can even be sitting on a table or in the front seat of my car, and it's constantly taking readings. Very distracting. Have looked around Hog archives and don't find an answer, nor have I discovered anything in User's Manual to correct this "hyper-focus" activity. I'm accustomed to using Nikon D300 that doesn't start AF until you hit the release button or initiate back focus. Am confidant a Hog A77 user will have the answer. Thanks.

The Nikon D610 is available for pre-order, but when it will deliver was not mentioned in the email I got from B&H. The price for the body alone is $100 less than the D600. With the kits lens, it is the same as the D600.

If you want a D600, this would be a good time to take advantage of dropping prices.

When are they coming with the D400 to replace the old standby, Nikon D300(S)?

I bought a camera harness at Cowboy Camera in Allen TX for under $20 that works great. Two connectors to carry camera & backup. Attaches via tripod mounting hardware. Comfortable & sturdy. Heavy-duty, solid construction, yet comfortable. Can order on-ine with free shipping.

All of the responses here are right-on, solid responses, as is usually the case on The Hog. But, I'll add another perspective: I just wrapped up conducting a digital photography seminar, and in researching, editing and streamlining my presentations, I found that I was learning and clarifying one amazing amount of information in the process.

I've found my 50MM 1.8 adequate especially in the massive European cathedrals. Amazing the pictures in very limited lighting. Your slower lens should work in museums in that they are illuminated for viewing the masterpieces. Bon Voyage!

Jerry, appreciate comeback. Have had people from Apple Users community to a guy in Hamburg Germany try and analyze
what's happened with no luck. As a last resort, I've made an appointment at Apple's Genius Bar tomorrow morning. If they can't help me, I''m just closing Apple down and jumping over to Lightroom, which has been very highly recommended to me.
Thanks again for your counseling & suggestions.
