The Nikon D610 is available for pre-order, but when it will deliver was not mentioned in the email I got from B&H. The price for the body alone is $100 less than the D600. With the kits lens, it is the same as the D600.

If you want a D600, this would be a good time to take advantage of dropping prices.

Got their email too and agree prices on the D600 will probably drop some. Have you been able to figure out the changes? I went through the specs and nothing jumped out. The D600 may be a real steal if/when the prices fall as the 610 at first blush looks like it may be only a renamed 600. ;)

It shoots faster and has continuous quiet shooting. I've read about some other minor changes, but nothing that interests me.

6fps instead of 5.5

“Quiet continuous” mode Yes
After activating it by selecting Qc on the mode sub dial, you’ll be able to shoot at up to 3 fps with limited mechanical noise. Such as for weddings, wildlife, or sleeping babies.

White Balance Improved

Capture more vivid skies and offers more natural reproduction of artificial light and more natural skin tones

Thanks Jerry and traveler. Perhaps if I had my coffee before I posted I would have thought to Google a xx vs. xx myself. ;). And I agree the changes are no biggie which to me at least means if the D600 cost drops it will be an even better buy than it was when it was first introduced.

WHAT? SPEAK UP! I DON'T HEAR A THING.

That's why it's called quiet mode and not silent mode.

I get a kick out of the improved weather sealing. Exactly what does that mean? If I took my D600 out in a light drizzle, can I take a D610 out in a steady rain? A downpour? Unless you're a pro who has to shoot in the rain, you're going to avoid that situation. If shooting is necessary, then you get a RainSleeve, or something similar.

Agree, at least for me anyway. I carry a optechusa rain cover in each of my bags as a precaution but have never used them- not once. If it looks like rain I'll come back another day or just enjoy the game or whatever after taking the gear back to the car. I'm thinkig I'll be keeping my eyes open to add a second factory reconditioned or new D600 if the prices drop sigificently.

I believe the improved seals are to keep the splattered lubricate inside the camera... ;-)

Yep, I knew you must be a canon guy then I looked at your byline and knew. Must be comforting to you to know canon has never had a screwup ;) anyway, I enjoyed the humor.
