The Pro dot shutter release was a great idea: soft plastic disc to fit on top of shutter release with many tiny 'dot' projections on top, and glue on the bottom to stick to shutter release button. I have now had 4 Pro dot buttons over a year: after cleaning the shutter release top surface with alcohol each time, I attached the Prodot. After several weeks of use, with the 'dot' softening the shutter release pressure and probably camera motion, the dots would fall off due to poor glue, doubtless aggravated by hot weather and/or my perspiration. Pro dot sent me a second set of buttons free, when I wrote them but the problem recurred. when handholding I use the shutter release button, and when on a tripod I use the remote release. I try to use Nikon VR lenses which helps.

Try a drop of Weldwood contact cement on the adhesive side of the dot and on the top of the shutter button- wait 15 minutes, then press the 2 surfaces together.

In the old days I had a soft shutter release trigger screwed into the shutter button housing. This allowed me to fire off the camera without my finger hitting the body of my camera and NOT causing any body shake -- Result sharper pictures at all speeds. The current crop of Nikon DSLR's have the shutter button just slightly higher above the body which means that the finger will always hit the camera in taking a picture. Is there anything out there similar to the old soft shutter release????? And I don't mean remote releases, mirror lockup and what ever just something to prevent camera shake.

You could use a self adhesive Bumper sold to prevent cabinet doors from hitting the jamb. They are usually clear silicone, and available in several sizes wherever cabinet hardware is sold.

Dear Uh?,
I did not question the complexity. I was asking if there was a generally accepted sequence of the events.

Thanks to RWR and boberic. Those are exactly the helpful answers that I was seeking.

I thought a headlamp would come in handy for those times when I am on the trail before Sunrise or after Sunset.
Any suggestions on an affordable headlamp?
How many lumens do I need?

Have you tried Harbor Freight? They had both bulb and LED versions.

Don't forget that Rob used a bit "strong backlight" to "highlight frontal details" as well... and just the right amount. It is attention to these small details that really makes a big difference in the final outcome.

So it had to include a wraparound source of backlight, eh?

Excellent image of a beautiful model. In addition to strong backlight you either used a reflector or kicker to highlight frontal details, yes?

I am in the market for a "medium quality" tripod. I am not a pro. Since I rather rarely work with a tripod, I am reluctant to follow the (no doubt) good advice that I should save up for a really high quality product, which dominate previous tripod commentaries on this site. My needs are relatively simple:

1. The camera most used would be a Sony HX 300 Bridge camera weighing less than 2 pounds.
2. Prefer something at least 65" in height, though I will not be using a tripod for long spans of time so bending down a bit is OK.
3. Prefer to spend under $100 and happier at less.
4. Weight of the tripod is not much of an issue since I have a little travel pod and this one would not need to fit into travel plans.
5. Will want a pan head, level optional.

There are lots of cheap ones ($30 and under) out there, and I would like to bump up enough to gain a bit of added stability and higher quality materials/durability.

Either shop used or increase your budget.

I have been a member of a camera club since 1975. Over the last 5 years or so, i have noticed an increase in color saturation of images displayed by members. The over saturating of images is apparently not a passing fad. Seems now it is the norm and if you display what i have always consider natural color, your images are not as well received.. Wondering what others think about this this.

What are the parameters set for judging prints? Have these changed, or the membership of the group?

I understand that a neutral density filter is used to shoot at slower shutter speeds. But what is the difference using an ND and perhaps using a polarizing filter (if appropriate) and a smaller f stop? Thanks.

You might want a specific f stop for DOF control. The ND filters are usually stronger than a polarizing filter.

Good Day All,

I have had a Nikon Equipment for years. Beautiful D300s. In the beginning it was simply a toss
of the coin on which camera line. The problem I am having is that I am always
comparing my photos against Cannon Photos. It always, and I do mean always feels to me
that Cannon has more vibrant and clear photos. I feel like Nikon is a softer, less dynamic
photo. I am never satisfied with my photos. Maybe I just have the "buy something new" bug.
I was wondering if I am the only one on the planet that does this?

Please tell me I am normal, lol...

Are you comparing you images to D300s era Canon Cameras, or newer models? What post processing do you do to your images? There are so many variables in this question it impossible to give an answer.

YES ! And I might add that during Operation Desert Storm, we flew out of bases in Saudi Arabia. A vital link to the Arab middle eastern world.

True, 15 of the 19 hijackers came out of Saudi Arabia, but the nation itself cannot control what their people do prior to committing a crime anymore than we can here in the US.

I guess you haven't a clue on how their children are raised and the religious doctrine they are taught? The Saudis practice and propagate the most extreme version of conservative Islam. It isn't a concidence that Osama Bin Laden and the 18 responsible for September 11 came from Saudi Arabia.

I don't think I'd want a lens like that; one would need to use ND filters to have any real control over shutter speed selection.

If you have a Costco close by check them out, I bought the replacement LED tube bulbs to replace the flourescent tubes in my shop, the light output is amazing, just change the bulbs not the fixtures. The light was so much brighter I took three fixtures out of the shop altogether, didn't need them.

Costco also had the complete fixture with LED lights as well but I didn't need fixtures.

So, It uses the same ballast/starter that was in the fixture with the fluorescents?
