Nice, Jack. I really like your presentation.

Thanks jaymatt, actually I'm just trying something new (to me). Never had any luck shooting an eclipse before.

Very nice. I'm already tired of eclipse images, though.

That probably means that you didn't get any photos of the eclipse to show off.
Thanks for viewing anyway,

Here's a short sequence of the 10-14-2023 Eclipse from the Apache Junction, Arizona area. The sequence begins at 8:32am and ends at 10:05am. In our area, we were expecting an 80% coverage so we missed the "Ring of Fire" that occurs with 100% coverage.

My camera is the Canon EOS M6, mll with the cropped sensor.
My lens is a 70-300mm with a 1.7 tele extender.
Filters included a variable ND (set at max) and a polarizer.
Manual focus, ISO 100, Aperture f/8, shutter speed 1/4,000.
25 shots were taken at 5 minute intervals.

Thanks for looking, Jack Olson

I've been thinking about what camera I would want for drone photography. Something cinematic but not the huge DSLR rigs. Something that allows aperture control and with some lens flexibility and the ability to add an ND filter. Maybe an anamorphic lens? I don't really know what the options and hoping to hear about some experiences. I guess it would need to be a rather modern platform to interface with a monitor and controller.

I'm assuming I'd need to build a custom rig since most off-the-shelf drones come with their own fixed lens camera.

TIA

I felt the same way as you Alphabravo, but I couldn't afford the cost of the unit that I wanted. So, I opted for the cheaper approach and selected the DJI Mini 3 for less than $500, and I'm glad now that I went this way.

I figured I could learn on the cheaper model and if felt the needs later on, I could go for the more expensive models. This unit is under the 250gram weight and doesn't require the license and registration that the heavier models require. However, if the unit is to be used in a business, then the licenses kick in.

The Mini 3 has a "stacked" 12mp sensor that can be used as a 48mp sensor and produce RAW images in .DNG format (the file size is 93mb for the RAW 48). There are lots of tutorials around and I would recommend watching this one to become more familiar with its abilities; ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-7IM82kAlg ).

So far, I'm not sorry I took this approach,

I feel like I've been tied down all summer and unable to do any of the trips I had planned. Yesterday I was busy making bookmarks for my next tent show when a friend called and invited me to go to Apache Lake. I hadn't been to Apache Lake for decades, and since the road washed out some years back, it was sort off my list. What fun! It's miles of narrow, dirt road where you either pull dangerously to the edge when meeting another vehicle, or back up to a wide spot in the road. No guard rails, of course, and the plunge down on the passenger side going in is hair raising. On the way, one passes Roosevelt Lake, which is quite large. Both lakes are remarkably full after our wet winter. At Roosevelt, there's only the thinnest of white line above the water line. At Apache, I didn't see any white line, but its shores are quite different. It wasn't a long day, but it sure was good to get out!

And, yes, these were shot with the new R3!

Nice photo set Kathy, I haven't been up to the lakes since they closed the Trail. I can make out the Angle Wings in the first photo. Miss that area, going to have to plan a trip up there one of these days.

The morning of August 20th, I kept watching a sunrise glow forming over the summit of Superstition Mountain outside of Apache Junction, Arizona. Gradually it turned into a full blown screamer and that's when I took this shot at 05:58am.

We now have the clouds and the humidity (45%), so where's the rain? This Monsoon season has been extremely intermittent where we get the sunrise and sunset clouds but, here in the Valley, the rains just haven't participated in the seasonal event, while other cities in the state have been getting hammered.

I once got third degree burns on my front teeth after nibbling on one of these things. NOTE!!! Beer does not cool the burning sensation.

I first met Bob a few years ago when he donated a couple of his trademark b/w photos that he had taken of the Elvis Chapel at the Superstition Mountain Museum. The photos had been edited in such a way that they looked like some 'turn-of-the-century' photos and it was a technique that he described in great detail.

We continued to keep in touch through comments and an occasional PM through UHH, but lately his appearances on the topics slowed considerably and I was sure he was having some health problems, but he wouldn't elaborate, so I didn't press the issue.

I'm so sorry to hear of his passing, but I know God has a special place for him.

Odd, i read the 21 and my thoughts went back to my 29 model A 5 window coup. What we see and think is what we think not what is real.

Brat photos of a proto... or was it actually produced??

I was sitting in the showroom at a local Ford dealer as my car was being serviced. On the floor was the same model Ford GT 350 strutting its stuff. I didn't get a shot of the info sign, but it mentioned the MSRP for the car was $640,000.00. and it is a very limited production model.

The photo is after a slight background adjustment.
