I took this pic of my grandson and it has a very noticable shadow. I printed it to canvas and it looks nice to me. My question is, should shadows be removed or are they ok?

This site is great!
My question is would it benefit me to upgrade to a canon 5D mark iii for better quality pictures. Im serious about becoming a good photographer. I mainly shoot landscapes, close up face shots and bugs/flowers using the macro lens.
Ive been shooting with a canon 50D since it came out. My pictures are decent/good, but not breathtaking. I rarely use auto modes mostly AV and TV.
I have 4 lens 28x 135mm, 75x300mm, 100x400mm and a 60mm macro lens. These are EF lens so can be used on a 5D.
Any input would be greatly appreciated
I took these at work during my lunch hour. The 1st one I think is the best.
You are right. The fly is dead. I'm learning how the different setting on the camera effect the picture. I chose to use a dead fly so that I could use the same picture setting and same subject with various camera settings and compare them.

Still trying to prefect the art of close-up.
These are head shots. I trired various different settingd in AV mode. This was the best I could get.
