The atmosphere was really scrubbed clean, and this crown jewel of the Olympics seemed to shine across the deep valley that I had ascended.

Taken from The Catwalk, an airy spine of rock that is traversed before stepping onto the flanks of Mount Carrie to start the Bailey Range traverse.

p.s. No need to question my sanity of carrying this 12 pound camera system, plus a 5 pound tripod all the way up the Hoh River trail, and then climbing up to this off-trail traverse. I think I already know the degree of insanity corresponding to carrying this beast.

Okay, R.G. and artBob: here's some Contrast adjustment only - not too much at +9, but you were right artBob, it seems to make it pop a little more as well as increase the depth a little as suggested by R.G.

I didn't do anything with the color - Contrast Adjustment only, as suggested. Why does a morning coffee taste SO good in a place like this? :-)

I'll try the contrast in a few minutes. It's one of the few "sliders" I have and understand a little in my Photoshop 6 (ancient version, but it runs well on my old computer that I desperately need to upgrade). :-)

I didn't do anything with the color - this was very close to what my eyes saw that morning, especially after a cup of coffee! Why does coffee taste SO good in a place like this? :-)

Seriously green! Whilst not a fan of hitting the clarity slider too hard in landscapes, I think a bit more mid-tone contrast might help provide the depth that's missing here. Or maybe simply more contrast? Worth a fiddle, its a lovely shot.

When I was there, I was in green shock. Your image brings all that back. It's very "other worldly" to my mind. Simply beautiful.

That "green shock" never goes away, AzPic. :-)

Larry,

O.M.G.! If we had requirements for particular colors of the visual spectrum the way we do for vitamins and other specific nutrients I suspect that few days in all that green there should lead to serious megenta deficiency (yeah...I know...magenta is not a spectral hue...I’m just sayin’.... )
The only time I had the opportunity to get up into the Olympic rain forest was in the summer of 74..in the midst of a record drought that had exerted a pervasive browning effect.
Thanks for posting this!
I like it a bunch!

Thank you Dave! You always add information that I like to read. Thanks for sticking with me. :-)

Fascinating place, but the photo does not convey what you say you saw for me; it is a bit flat. Dealing with vibrance, saturation, contrast, and tonal values might bring out the aspects you saw.

I need to eventually learn those aspects of 'processing' after the scan. I tend to just let the images stay as scanned without doing much to them. That said, I don't see the "flatness", but I DO see your points about contrast and tones. Thank you MUCH for your suggestions. :-)

It must have been like waking up in another world. Photography is at its best when it shows us things that most of us never get to see for ourselves.

I often do this in the summer, R.G. That is when our weather is fantastic and mild. I just laid my sleeping bag out on a patch of strong moss that wouldn't be damaged by my just laying on it. No tent needed. I watched the stars wheel above the small openings in the canopy. The morning was wonderful, and a herd of elk was moving through about 200 yards away; I could hear them stomping around.
