The atmosphere was really scrubbed clean, and this crown jewel of the Olympics seemed to shine across the deep valley that I had ascended.
Taken from The Catwalk, an airy spine of rock that is traversed before stepping onto the flanks of Mount Carrie to start the Bailey Range traverse.
p.s. No need to question my sanity of carrying this 12 pound camera system, plus a 5 pound tripod all the way up the Hoh River trail, and then climbing up to this off-trail traverse. I think I already know the degree of insanity corresponding to carrying this beast.

It may be a beast to carry, but darn, it sure takes a nice photo. From the places you get to I believe you would have been a good hiking companion to Jack Hughs.

Hi, Larry,
Never having been able to experience viewing this sight myself, I am very curious if this 3D conversion comes at all close to what you actually saw and captured so expertly on film.
I regret that 3D conversion cannot provide a sense of the bracing, crystal air nor the effects of the adrenaline rush of recognized accomplishment. Those are for you, alone, to enjoy!

Thank you so much Laurence for posting this excellent example of MF film. My guess is you shot this at a fairly small aperture considering the excellent depth of field. Very good work and well worth the lug of heavy equipment.

A wonderful image, that is enhanced by the clouds below. My one quibble would be that the central trees partially mask that beautiful massif in the background.

Yes, I couldn't climb higher, I was at the apex of the spiny ridge. I also couldn't move much laterally because of the terrain. So, I just went with the small aperture and depth of field to at least include the trees in the foreground as being in focus. It was another hour before I could exit off the ridge, and by then the light was not as good.
