Thank Much for the reply's Hog's. Food for thought.
Looks like a Good Choice either way IMHO.
Hey Folks,
Looking to purchase an ultra-wide lens for my D500 in the (10-??) range and considering options from Tokina and Sigma since they seem to be at a more affordable price point than Nikons for this type of lens.
Thinking it would be great to have for certain situations, but not "general" use.
All my current glass is Nikon. Can anyone offer some advice or experience on these other two brands I'm lookin at? They both seem to get fairly good reviews.
Thanks for any input

My understanding is that only the new Nikon flash is completely compatible with the D500.
Well Wes, that's what I gleaned from the Nikonians blog where I found folks with same issue.
Kind of "funky" that Nikon would render a flash like the 910, not completely compatible.
Thanks for the reply WesIam
You're absolutely right Susan. I always ask Siri when I'm lost LOL.
As it turns out, I found on the Nikonians blog, people having the same issue, and it's attributed to the fact that my SB 910 will not light it up! But, my first hot shoe flash, SB 400 does! I also learned it's not a big deal, since I can access all the modes and apparently, if I need to use remote units, the 400 will activate them, although I haven't tried it yet.
Maybe they will update the firmware to accommodate the 910 and other, not so inexpensive units. I was disappointed to read that.
Thanks for your reply.
I love Vermont!!!

check bracketing/flash in the custom setting menu. See if that help you,
Thanks Duffy...Yes I've been in there; no help.
No I haven't gone there yet, I didn't give that a thought, hoping that's not the case!!
Well, if I don't get any answers on this blog, I don't think anyone could help other than Nikon! Yikes!
Hello Hogs,
Feeling a bit inadequate, but I need to ask anyway.
I am trying to learn flash modes on a Nikon D500 recently purchased, and finding that in my photo shooting menu, my "flash control" option is not lit enabling me to change flash modes, with or without my SB-910 attached, or with it "on" or "off".
I've tried several You Tube tutorials and none that I've chosen seem to address the issue
I know there has to be a setting somewhere that allows me to make these changes, but I just can't see where it is. The manual shows the modes, and it looks easy enough, but if the selection ain't lit, I can't make any adjustments.
I would appreciate some help.
Thanks Much!
Looks like any one of us who graduated around that time! Myself; 1964.
There just wasn't that much to worry about in those days for us except the draft.
Seems like a couple of years have gone by since then.
OH WAIT is it really 53 Years?

Oh God, as I bring my subject into focus and prepare to make each portrait, never let me forget that I'm creating treasures for some family, a keepsake for loved ones. Make me sensitive to the qualities and virtues of others, that I may draw out into the light the beautiful radiant belongings of their hearts.
Help me to be an artist, collecting the beauty of every soul, the glow of youth,
the gentleness, the laughter or tears of each life that is precious in Thy sight. Deeper than a means of livelihood, give me the perspective to see my photographer's art as a service to others, making life richer and more memorable.
And, dear Lord, between the lights and shadows, the ups and downs and the rolling years, keep me from getting out of focus or off center, so that my life and work may be framed with dignity and colored with contentment ...
AMEN
