Your limitation is in post processing not in gear...

If you find the color too deep, use a white fill color layer, set the blend mode to softlight, dial the opacity to 0 then dial it slowly up.

Thanks Rongnongno!!
That's good to know, I have played a little with Photoshop and PS Elements, my biggest problems with it is knowing when and where to use what features!

Hey, you're blowing my need to spend lots of $,$$$.$$ to get better images.

That is as good as you are likely to get at ISO 3200. The second one is pretty good.

Thanks MtnMan
I could have gotten there earlier but that's what the conditions were at the time. I missed the sunshine about one hour earlier.
Have a Merry Christmas!!

I am trying to maximize image quality. My Images still seem soft.
With the equipment listed in my signature have I reached the maximum potential that it's capable of (especially the camera body)?

Only the distance changed from the first shot.
Shot conditions: Heavy overcast, Late afternoon.
Tripod first shot
Hand held, Braced on fence post for second shot.
VR or image stabilization off for both shots.

I suspect the imported Chinese mantis (Tenodera sinensis): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_mantis This can eat the Carolina species for lunch.

I would tend to agree that, it's a Chinese Mantis. I was surprised when it caught and devoured the bumble bee. I have seen the foam nests of some thing but no mantis's other than that one I photographed. I have seen the random very small mantis but nothing of any size until I just happened to photograph this one.
Thanks for the look and ID.

Plenty of adults here - juvies also.

Good luck with your Christmas list, but unfortunately, this is UHH - not Santa.com.

I will post it there too!

I believe I will receive!

Nice shot, BeaverNewby! Too bad it's a little dark.

I shoot raw, it pretty easy to lighten. Here is a revision. I know some of the PP Pros around here can do better, take a look tell me What you think.

That little MAC 100 should work well. 1/2 way between my Orion 80 and the SkyWatcher 120. Remember the image on the phone may still be too small so you may have to zoom it up a bit in order to get the exposure to be correct. Even at that, I had a little trouble getting the exposure correct when using the larger scope, and maybe a filter would have helped.

One quick Question dlmorris.
Does that adapter fit over the lens of the telescope or is it removed and placed on the lens tube that the lens fits in?

Those are great images.

This is most likely a Carolina Mantis (Stagmomantis carolina): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carolina_mantis

look here, it might not be a Carolina Mantis. It's wing is a closer match to this one.

Did you know that Praying Mantis is the only insect that can turn its head?

No, but I did observe him make some incredible quick moves.
