My 18 400 has been on my 7d2 for almot a year I use it as my travel/knock around lens. I would buy another . No its not the sharpest lens but it does ok. In less than good light it can hunt a little for focus
It works best when caibrated to the body !
It is even short enough to get through the gate at Miller Park for Milwaukee Brewers games.
Been using FoCal for years and love it !

My wife and i will be going to Hawaii September 2021. We have never been. I own Nikon equipment. Since we are flying ( I don't want to check camera equipment). I will be taking just one camera Nikon D800. If you were going and was limited to one or two lens, what would you take..?
Well that would depend on a couple of factors
Will this be a photo trip or is the trip for tourist , sight seeing and spending time with your wife and bringing the camera for travel photography.
I know my wife puts up with a lot of my photo stops (god bless her) but doesn't enjoy standing around watching me get the perfect shot when "WE" are on vacation.
I would go with a 24-70 or 24-120 and 70-200 or 70-300 Not being a Nikon shooter but looking at lens choices on B & H the 28-300 looks like a nice range for travel .
When we Travel I usually have my 7Dmk2 with the Tamron 18-400 and have no need to change lenses the entire trip.
Don't forget extra batteries and charger, a couple extra cards they are cheep , change them often don't trust your once in a life time trip to just one card , and a couple of sensor cleaning swabs
[quote=BadPhoto]I use Black Rapid slings exclusively. I have left, right and double. And very small. I have 25mm Arca Clamps on the end, and use them to clamp onto the Arca base plates on the cameras or tripod collars on the lenses.
Can you tell me more about the clamp you use I have been looking for a way to attach a camera with an "L" bracket to my Black Rapid
I love my 18-400 as a travel/walk around but it is not a EF lens (Full frame) it is for EF-S (Crop Sensor) cameras
To help the budget you might want to consider a Tamron 18 to 400, not quite as sharp as the150 600 but would be closer to what you are used to shooting
There is also the Tamron 150-600 G2 you could add to your list of options
[quote=fotoman150]For you pros, or anyone with an opinion.
Nobody on here has an opinion LOL
With 6 pages of replies you can sum it up like this "you want the longest lens you can get at your price point" The Tamron 150 to 600 G2 to me seems to be the best choice for the money
Contact your safari company see if they might not have something there you could use
I know this is probably tto bulky, but when I go camping or out on the boat Iuse a ammo box, it fits my canon 7Dmk2 with a 100 to 400 on it (I have added some modest padding to the bottom )there also may be a Pelican case that would wor
I'm shooting with a Canon RP which I love but battery life is very poor compared to the 7D I was using before.
A mirrorless camera will do that especially if the viewfinder and screen are on. I ditched Canon long ago but there are probably some settings in the menu that will also help you save on battery life. I have had excellent performance out of Ravpower batteries in my Sony (a 2 pack with a dual charger were under $50.00 on Amazon a year ago)
Never been but wish to some day but I am a big fan of "The wildlife photography podcast " really great Africa photographic info
I subscribe to the Kindle version for 3 yrs now but got a notice from Amazon today that they were going from 12 to 9 issues a year and I would get a refund for any over payment
