I was watching a how to video demo where the camera was set to take three pictures one normal, then one underexposed one stop and then one overexposed one stop just by hitting the shutter button three times. Can anyone tell me the correct term for this function and/or if a Canon EOS t3 has this capability?

Thanks
Rob

As others have said, this is called bracketing. The example you give is the smallest number of exposures for bracketing. Some cameras can do 5, others 7 and I think the D4 does 9.

However, if you are attempting HDR, you should be using a tripod. Then you can do all the bracketing you want manually, with as many exposures as you want. A great, yet inexpensive ( $150 ) software package, is Google's Nik collection. It does all sorts of things like HDR, perspective control and color to B&W image converter.

how would you like it if someone took one of YOUR photos changed it just enough then posted it without giving you credit. you would be hacked off. That is what the theifs at gimp did. stole the hard work of others. Guess I am a hot head cause i hate theives.

Utter nonsense. They were completely different programs in the beginning. And, if anything, Adobe took many things from GIMP without attribution. Please do some reading before you spew this crud.

GIMP is community supported. If the people spent as much time as they did learning PS and helped to improve it GIMP would be a better product. Their biggest problem is money, or a lack thereof. This makes it slower to progress. That has been changing quite a bit in the past year or so. Has Adobe ever sued the makers of GIMP? No, because it would have no merit. If you are angry with thieves, look at piracy and bit torrent.

Being free does not mean it is an inferior product; Apache is better than IIS and Linux is better than Windows. The problem is there isn't the acceptance that Windows has and there is a lack of some apps.

At this point, PS is a better product, no doubt. But do you really need a 16 pound sledgehammer when a small ball peen will do? Try Lightroom, Picasa, Pinta, Paint.NET, etc....

My all time favorite photographer is W. Eugene Smith.
I'll try to find a link to his bio, but you can google him to get a feel of just how terrific-a-photographer he was.

Matthew Brady. More for what he shot than how. He brought the horrors of war right into the living room and with it, dimmed a lot of the 'glory' of war.

Ansel Adams. More for his patience than anything else.

So sorry that you had a bad trip. However, there is really no need to cast the whole of children of unmarried parents and their parents as bad. You can use the word; "bastards". No one uses the term bastards to describe a family.

You felt that the operators of this railroad are bastards.

I know we've discussed this topic before, but I have something to add. I've decided not to renew Pop Photo and Outdoor Photographer when they expire. When a new issue arrives, I skim through it and add it to the pile, thinking I'll get back to it another time. I never do.

I recently went through Pop Photo, and ripped out all the ads. What had begun as a magazine with 95 pages wound up as a 50-page magazine. Of course, I'm paying just $12.00 a year, but if all I do is skim and pile these things, why bother? I'll use that money to buy a new lens - eventually. :D

In the U.S. Army I was in the A.S.A. (unrelated to film speed) and we didn't call it "Asa".
It's an abbreviation, and I myself will continue to pronounce it as such here in the U.S.A. (Not you-sa) (c:

What about N.A.S.A?

I was saying no to the "Standards" part. It is 'Standardization'. And since I went back to look, I noticed the 'Latin'. It is 'Greek'.

From Wikipedia -

Yes, true, but ISO is still an abbreviation. It was picked as the universal abbreviation because of its closeness to the Greek word. After the fact...

And I guess no one would notice that that abbreviation would be "ISO" or "IOS" only in ENGLISH. In French it would be "OIN" for "Organisation internationale de normalisation".

The organization is named "ISO" from the Latin word "Isos" ("equal" ) and is pronounced "eye-so".

Ah. No. It is called "International Organization for Standardization" and is an abbreviation. I almost said an acronym, but folks get hung up on what that word means.

Outside of the US, you will find that these kinds of abbreviations are pronounced as if they are a word, like U.F.O. is pronounced as three letters; U F O; in the States. Most elsewhere, it is pronounced as ufo, as if a word. Even in those countries where the words "Unidentified Flying Saucer" would obviously be different in that local language.

I love the hobby... but I have seen irresponsible people do irresponsible things.

The R.C. field in my home town is MILES from the airports and NOT in any flight path, save one; the RARELY used paths assigned to medical helicopters flying from the towns in the S.E. to our regional medical center and specialty hospitals.

And even though the field is basically on a closed down Solid Waste Landfill, there are a number of subdivisions in every direction and over the years there have been a number of VERY expensive accidents caused by irresponsible pilots being irresponsible. I've SEEN it with my own two eyes. :x

Contrary to popular belief, MOST regulations are put into place because of something bad that has already happened in an attempt to keep it from happening again.....

As a programmer and one who has dealt with far too numerous BAD BAD BAD embedded systems, I truly fear driver-less anything. I dislike most automated systems because they are poorly written with usually no error handling. Add idiot pilots behind the controls and I want to hide.

A few weeks back, I was looking for some advice on a new Nikon. I was trying to decide between a 7100,610 or 800. I decided on a 610 when the rumor of the 9300 (the long awaited D400) came out. So here I am waiting again. Just out of curiosity, how much better do you think these photos would have been using a 610. Let's assume everything else was equal (lighting, distance, technique etc.) These were shot with my D200. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying these are great pictures or anything, just typical of what I normally shoot. I used my Nikon 80-200 2.8 and the pics are cropped, but I would not say heavily. So, how much would I have gained using a new D610?

None. Whatever it is you think these shots are missing, lie within yourself, not the camera. Technically, there is really nothing wrong with them.

I would have to ask, what is it that you think is missing? I have never shot Lacrosse, but it has to be much like any sport. You need to time your shots to catch the scoop or flick out at face-off. Or as the ball is passed or caught. Show me a collision. Get me excited about the game with your freeze-frames.

Imagine a baseball game. Catch the action as the ball is headed towards the plate. Will he hit it? Or after the batter hits it; a foul? a single? a home run! Maybe get a shot of the pitcher just as the ball leaves his hand and heads towards the plate.
