Being a newbie to post processing I have just received PSE 12 and Lightroom 5, as well as 2 manuals that I ordered as well; "Photoshop Elements 12, the missing manual" by Barbara Brundage, (btw, which is most excellent IMO) as well as Scott Kelby's "Lightroom 5" l(haven't got to this one yet, but it certainly looks great too). I'm only about half way through PSE 12's manual and references are made for using a graphics tablet.

Well, I researched them on ebay and Amazon only to find a plethora of them, and I'm completely confused as to which one will work best with Photoshop Elements, and if indeed they justify the cost and will dramatically increase the ease of post processing. Thanks in advance for any and all comments and advice.

There are 4 variables, 3 main ones.
The exposure triangle, (ISO, shutter, aperture) are the main ones.
The 4th one is white balance.
Therein, lies the secret of all photography.

Everything else is just "fluff".

Huh? Composition counts for nothing?

Does Amazon permits returns AND provide a free return shipping label?

I've occasionally made returns there with no problems. I don't recall whether Amazon paid for the return ... I think they did.

IMHO I think that is a very odd reason for selecting Amazon over B&H, but its not for me to judge your decision making process.

I agree, you're absolutely right. :D Nonetheless ...

To some extent cameras are commodities. The Panasonic Lumix GX7 is pretty much identical whether I buy it at B&H or Amazon. So choosing where to buy comes down to selection based upon some other (possibly very minor) factor.

Many people make buying decisions based upon price, but assorted economic factors keep the prices near-identical between the major vendors. Others will make the buying decision based upon location -- choosing to support a local store rather than save a few dollars shopping on-line.

Folks here have spoken of many years of happy relations with B&H, or their great customer service, etc. I, too, have had great customer service, years of happy relations, free shipping, etc., from Amazon. And for me, the way that Amazon goes out of its way to provide/encourage/solicit customer reviews is the feather that tips the scale in their favor.

It automatically maps all screens unless you change your prefrences. The active area of the tablet is the same as the active viewing area regardless if you have one monitor or eight.

OK. Thanks.

If the Wacom maps to the desktop, how does that work with a dual-monitor (or multi-monitor) setup?

Amazon sells photography gear, too, and offers sales and bargains. I've found its service first rate.

I occasionally buy from B&H, but only if Amazon doesn't have what I'm looking for. This is because B&H, for all it's wonderfulness, lags far behind Amazon in the quality (and quantity) of the customer reviews of the products. Those reviews are very important in my decision-making process. Therefore, I use them and reward Amazon for making them available to me (us).

I'm not talking "Subject Matter" here, only the photographic quality. Amid all the crap photos, there are heaps of really good, well taken and processed photos that deserve praise. The thing a lot of you people need to learn is the difference between the two..

I recently had a friend comment positively about the increasing quality of the photos I send to him. My response was that I wasn't getting better at photography so much as I was getting better at throwing away the 99-44/100% of pictures that deserved to be thrown away. :-D

If you still have a local camera store with knowledgeable salespeople and a decent inventory of at least Nikon and Canon gear, do you purchase your photo gear locally? Do you shop online? Or both?

I do have a local camera store (Bedford's) that has salespeople knowledgeable about Nikon and Canon and a decent inventory of Nikon and Canon gear.

Which does me Absolutely No Good. Not only do they not stock anything related to micro-four-thirds cameras or lenses, at least one of their salespeople told me that micro-four-thirds is nothing but a scam and anyone buying micro-four-thirds gear is a fool. They don't get any of my business.

So, having a local "camera" store in my neighborhood is, IMHO, a waste of real estate.

Given no other choice, I shop on-line!

I would definitely recommend 2 bodies since you have them. I will often shoot a group shot, then quickly switch cameras to get a head shot of someone, 2 cameras makes it a lot easier

I agree. I carry the two cameras on an OptechUSA dual harness and switch between them with no difficulties at all.

BTW, everything you described indicates that your main goals are to enjoy the activities of your group and to take pictures. How much gear I take to any activity depends largely on how high photography is on the list of goals. If it is less important for you this time than I inferred, then less gear would make sense.

My main goal on the Saturday will be taking pictures of my group (very important to them, as the matriarch of the family makes part of her living designing and creating renaissance-related costumes and uses my pictures as part of her marketing efforts). My main goal on the Sunday is to enjoy the faire on my own, taking pictures that please me, whether or not they please anyone else.

This information may affect your inferences. :-D

Consider how much gear the performers and others who are in costume take to the faire. It's time to accept the needs of your craft, and take 3 lenses. ;-)

Yes, I'm coming to that conclusion.

be prepared to use very fast shtter speeds in certain situations. close ups of kid's faces---in and out of costume---are endless opportunities.

pls excuse no caps, sorry.

The need for fast speeds (and therefore a fast lens) is behind my giving weight to the 25mm (f/1.4). The need for framing-and-composition flexibility is behind my giving weight to taking a smaller zoom instead of the 25mm (say, the 14-45mm). And the need for capturing stuff at a distance is behind my giving weight to the 45-200mm.

Note for those who've forgotten: I'm using two m4/3 cameras, so the equivalent ranges for the three lenses are 50mm, 28-90mm, and 90-400mm.

I'd prefer very much to take two lenses on two bodies. You folks here are giving me reason to consider taking three lenses, and thus having to concede that I'll spend some time changing lenses.

In spite of that last sentence sounding whiney, I truly do appreciate all the input and insight you've been sharing.
