Sorry, can't help you there with that one.

I know what you mean. My first computer I knew both inside and out, down to the integrated circuit level.
With the introduction of Windows and the subsequent versions, I lost more and more control with each version.
I'm getting closer to being an end user now.

Yeah, I used to be a Unix system administrator, back in the day. These PCs are way more complicated these days!

Ok, thanks for the info. I will try these ideas out in the morning.

Incidentally, while I was trying to do this, I changed something under 'streaming services' or something (I can't find where it was at the moment), and it allowed me to stream music from the PC and play it on the laptop... I swear I am getting less and less technical as time goes on!

Thanks!

I am setting up a Dell laptop, as a spare in case this puppy goes belly-up, and also for some limited travel purposes.

I don't have a clue about how to get the 2 computers to talk to each other.

Both are connected to wifi. The laptop does not appear to see the PC.

The PC sees the laptop, but when I try to connect to it, I get the pop-up below

I have no idea what the "network credentials" are. I have tried my windows id and password from this PC. I have no login on here, just a pin. The laptop also has a pin, but no password. I have tried every combination of ID and password from these, but get the same error message. Oh, I have also tried it with the wifi password, but to no avail. Can anyone tell me what information it is asking for? I have never tried connecting 2 PCs through a network before, and I am stuck.

I have been able to copy some of the stuff I need by plugging in one of my backup drives and doing an internal copy, but this data is out of date, and doesn't help getting any new data across when needed.

I throw myself on the collective wisdom of the UHH experts!

This was a great camera... I used one for many years. Shame I am not looking to get back into film, or I would have bitten your fingers off!

I have popped a bicycle tire by overinflation, and that is loud. I can't imagine what a tire would sound like.

I was passing a tractor-trailer on I95 one time, when his tire blew. It was LOUD! I almost discovered the colour of adrenaline right then!

Yeah, I have no interest in getting back into film at this stage in my life! I find it hard enough to carry and use my Canon DSLRs, so the added weight of a medium format jobbie would probably kill me... Hope you get a buyer, as these really are great cameras...

I had a Kowa Super 66 back in the olden days... I was the PR photographer for the regiment. Maybe not as good as a Hasselblad, but a fraction of the cost, too!

Funny you should say that. I've seen quite a few bad reviews and comments about those "tough" LaCie external drives in the orange rubber cases. I found software and documentation for it, so I might give it a try.

I have been using one of these for quite a while now, with no issues. One time it lost connection to the PC, and my daily backups failed until I noticed it. This particular PC is prone to USB issues, which I think is more likely than the drive.

I went online to Amazon, and they also have 'renewed' 10TB drives for $79! But then again, I decided that I don't need another drive. I have 6 large drives, 2 stored off-site at the bank, and one here which is air-gapped, and only connected to power and PC when I actually run a backup to it.

I also run Carbonite, and I think I have the backup situation well under control - especially as there is nothing on here which would be of any interest to anyone but me!

This past trip to Germany, I wanted to check out a few areas that were important during the Cold War. One of these spots is on the German/German border (referred to as the "Iron Curtain" during the Cold War) that was just outside of Fulda (West) Germany. If the cold war had turned hot, it would have probably started here. At this outpost, which has been preserved, American soldiers were sent for two weeks at a time before they were switched out with other soldiers stationed in Fulda. It is a spooky place even now a generation after the end of the cold war has ended. So I used the clouds in the sky and NIK to give this photo of an East German observation tower an ominous look. I only had bright sunshine conditions in the middle of the day, so it was tough to make it really ominous.

This past trip to Germany, I wanted to check out a... (show quote)

I spent 6 years in Germany while I was in the army. I spent a few weekends with a friend, staying with a family in Kleiner Zecher, which is very close to the IGB (Inner German Border). The father of the family we stayed with had some connection with the border patrol people, and he got permission to take us past the border barrier.

The first pic shows us standing *right* at the border - the road just stops there, and continues across the ditch through the minefield. The second shot is of the observation tower on the East side. It doesn't show up, but we could see the border guards watching us through binoculars!

Number 3 is just me standing beside my car - taken by my friend who clearly didn't understand the concept of focus! They were all taken on a Canon A1

it is the ^#$%@ Robocalls that have ruined my telephone ... as many as 20 per day. My day is perpetually disturbed by the home land phone chirp.. Yes, my number is registered with the "National Do Not Call Registry" found at : www.donotcall.gov

If one could trace the real number calling... would it be justifiable homicide? Good plot for a story... serial killer targeting robocall centers doing mass killings.

Most of the numbers are spoofed. Calling back will get a 'number not in service' message. Or some irate person who has no idea who you are or why you are calling *them*. I actually once had a call on my landline, from my cellphone - which was in my pocket at the time! The do-not-call list is a farce... I use NoMoRobo, which has cut down on a lot of them.

Interesting thing about Air Force One... When it comes time to retire the 747, there is some sort of law which states that the President's official aircraft must be 4-engined. I guess for redundancy and safety reasons. Thing is, nobody is building 4-engine planes anymore...
