If you strongly believe the country will be better off with fewer illegal aliens, for whom did you vote in the last election? This is where I find unions to be conflicted and often support candidates who do not favor policies that are supported by the rank and file members.

Unions aren't about national policy, although they do contribute money like PACs and other special interests. Unions are like defense lawyers--we don't care if you are legal, illegal, black white or whatever--unions exist for better wages, benefits and working conditions. Defense lawyers are only interested in the best possible defense for a client, not guilt or innocence. Unions are only interested in the workplace conditions--not work force citizenship. As far as disagreeing with union policies, the Beck decision allows any union member to opt out of paying the share of dues that aren't related to just the contract you work under.

Again, the remedy here:

Fire the illegal aliens.

Hire citizens to fill the vacancies.

B&H can quite easily rid itself of the illegal aliens on the payroll by requiring, if possible, all employees to submit to a verification of the right to work under the existing federal E-Verify program. This program screens for a right to work.

After all, illegal aliens have no right to live and work in America.

America can get along without illegal aliens, and will prosper all the more.

No. This is informative on one of the industry remaining giants.

As to accuse al jazzera of being a propaganda tool you know very little. Yes, it is a middle east TV station. Yes, most of not all the staff is Muslim. No, it does not mean they are extremists or promote extremist views. This outfit has been creating waves all over the middle east for its programming. It is highly controversial there. Several times had its journalists have put in jail for what they are exposing. Saudi Arabia rulers are particularly upset at its reporting. Al Jazeera is based in Quatar and modeled on the BBC funding as well as editorial policies. 'Modeled' being they keyword Qatar rulers keep a tight eye on their creation and use it as a diplomatic tool in the middle east which does not please the other gulf countries.

Now if you take the time to follow some of the links provided within the few articles and you will find that this unlike other stories this is well documented.

So for those who comment and try to discriminate against the sources used by the article (Al Jazzera) do your own research as I did. It does not take long to find related stories. That some are old is not a reason to dismiss them at all, quite the contrary. They show that the company has a long history of labor problems that cannot be 'dismissed out of hand'.

This is a pastern you see in many large companies that are sometimes tech oriented, just check Apple, Dell and who knows who else. While the clothing industry is the most notorious for unfair labor practice it is far from being the only one. In the US, just look at the farming industry...

Enough said.

I am a former Teamster union agent, trustee, Sec'y-Treas and organizer. I never got a phone call from ANYBODY who was treated well at work and wanted to organize into a union. We represented people at UPS, public schools, freight, construction and multi national entities, so our collective experience was considerable. After reading the older and newer threads, it looks like B&H is engaging in the Wal-Mart approach to unions--just pay the fines because it is more cost effective. Look for more publicity as the campaign to organize heats up.

You can check my post on 10/9--I included 3 shots that can be downloaded.
I still can't believe that shaky right arm and wide open aperture produced these pictures in jpeg with only cropping and brightening!!

Last week I posted some shots (hand held) of the new Nikon 200-500mm F5.6 lens compared to the 150-600mm offerings from Tamron and Sigma.
This week I decided to see what it would do against the MUCH heralded Nikon 200-400mm F4 Pro lens, again in poor conditions and wide open. (I will try differing aperture shots later)
Since both lenses VR is "tripod aware" I decided to leave the VR turned on and shot these test samples on a tripod. All are at ISO 1600, wide open, full zoom, I also added a Nikon 1.4X TC to the 200-400mm F4 lens just for a comparison.
To me it appears the new 200-500 model holds its own VERY well, especially at less than 1/4 the price!
The 200-400mm shot looks lighter since it was shot at F4 rather than F5.6. Like I said, I took these shots wide open, cloudy day, heavy haze in the air, as poor of conditions as I could imagine for this long glass. I may repeat this same test in good light if we ever get any more of that around here!

I just finally got a chance to use my new Nikon 200-500 and was blown away by the sharpness of this lens. These pictures were taken SOOC, jpeg, 100-400 ISO, all wide open and cropped to around 100%. All I can say is good job Nikon!

Some years back a friend in the junk mail business told me that if you get a 1%-2% response you are doing great. This was before the internet. Think of the numbers now that you have a worldwide audience and don't have to pay postage on each piece of "mail". You probably now only need .001% response.......

can anyone tell me if Adorama is a good place to buy from?
Thanks,

Adorama, B&H, and KEH are all reputable dealers and I have purchased from all 3. Look into their Used/refurb listings for an even better deal. You will get good equipment, accurate description of quality/wear and they have great return policies if you are not satisfied. Good luck

I still think Souza was checking the exposure rather than focus; perhaps trying to avoid over-exposure on the bright white, reflective garment.

I thought that he was just checking exposure and color balance--maybe even DOF. You would think he would trust the focusing mechanism but had to check the other variables in ever changing conditions.

A newbie here. When I use manual focus to focus on the moon, I have to use less than infinity even though the moon is 240,000 miles away. Does this mean my lens is not correctly constructed?
Thank you!

Your lens is fine. Older lenses made a hard stop at infinity--you could twist the focusing ring until it stopped and you knew you were at the longest focus point. Newer lenses (G type for Nikon especially) do a hard stop past infinity on the distance scale; therefore you must focus manually to get a moon shot. Maybe someone here can explain the technicalities of this but know that your lens is operating the way it should.

Glad to see a report from someone that has real hands on experience. My local camera store has 2 of them in stock. Because of your positive input I think I will stop in tomorrow and add one to my camera bag.

As soon as the rain stops I plan on using the lens and posting something! We need the rain but I need to use my new toy, I mean, lens

I have had the lens for a week and I LOVE it! Works well with my 1.4 and 1.7 converters on both my d7200 and my D810.
This seems to be the best super zoom for the Nikon compared to the Sigma and Tamron super zooms. Very pleased. Sold my 80-400 already. You will need to buy a real case to protect the lens.

Thanks RGH. That's good to know. I use a d7000 and d3 and look forward to selling a couple of lenses too-so I can G.A.S. up on converters!

I've shot the moon at 300mm, f/11, 800 ISO and let the shutter go from 1/100 to 1/200. It usually works for most full moon shots. Careful with the infinity focusing--some lenses don't do a hard stop so you must focus manually and depend on the camera's focusing system to tell you when you are focused.
Good luck
