I tell my college students that they are the ones who won't let LP records die. And it's folks like us that won't let over-the-air TV die. Yes, there are still some really great free over-the-air TV shows. OH, I filed to mention that with the over-the-air digital tuner, you also get a bunch of .x stations. So CBS is channel 4 here in St. Louis. But most of the above mentioned shows are really on 4.1 channel. There are also 4.2, 4.3, and 4.4. The local PBS station is 9.1. But the PBS network also supplies 9.2, 9.3, and 9.4. One of those strongly features travel shows, and very informative for those of us who plan to visit parts of Europe.

Bison, about putting up a TV antenna, don't you already have one up 'from those days gone by'? I do, I put it up in the attic for superb FM reception. Well ... I don't listen to any local FM stations anymore, but the antenna works superb for St. Louis area wide digital TV. To take it one step better, I bought an over the air TV tuner with DVR built in. Amazon has units like that now. Anyway, I love Dick Wolf shows, like Law and Order, which of course are gone. BUT, I now regularly record FBI, All Rise, Bull, and Blue Blood. To round it off, I've just added Young Sheldon. Since we live a somewhat unconventional schedule in our home, I don't watch any of those "live". All recorded to the DVR, so I watch it later at my convenience. LOL, I can also jump-over the commercials. And all these shows, of course, are free. So Bison, you are making a very wise move, in my opinion.

Isn't there a 'legal show', with that wonderful "bitchy" lawyer? She was on a prior legal show, and I loved her role. Is this enough to describe a show you might also watch in your free two weeks?

I'm a Star Trek super fan. But when CBS started the subscription plan, I'm reminded of when we had DirecTV. Bill was not cheap. Then we dropped it, picked up Netflix and love it. Now, if we begin adding others, like CBS All Access, then ???, we're right back up at the $100 per month. I think we'll stay happy with what we have. And "thank you" Jerry, for putting the major size temptation before me. :)

In addition to teaching, I wanted to get into broadcast radio. (Careful what you wish for.) . I was given that chance, no complaints, even when I was initially assigned on Saturday nights, shift being 12 midnight to 6AM Sunday morning. This meant that twice a year my shift would change, to a 5 hour shift or a 7 hour shift. Still, no complaints, especially when I could be creative with the "second 2AM".

Jerry's location is probably the spot in our country where the signal is the weakest.

National Institute of Standards and Technology is in Boulder, Colorado.

I'm in the midwest, and one of my five "atomic clocks" has yet to reset. Four clocks did early this morning, and three of my "atomic watches" also reset.

Just as an FYI, those clocks (and watches) designed with a radio signal inside, to respond to the National Bureau of Standards, typically cannot be manually set.

CO, you've cited the reason I won't join the many camera clubs in my area.

At the time David, that was a 'super camera', wasn't it? And how does it perform today?

Robert, I am not surprised at all about what you just said. And if you Google Cassette, you will even see a reference of cassettes having a longer life than a CD. I find this very hard to believe, at least that statement. But the fact that there is a resurgence in Europe it is now fact. Go figure!

One more "it won't go away" for your consideration. We listen to a wonderful classical music station out of London. ClassicFM . More than a month ago, the morning guy announced that cassette tapes were making a return to the UK. Why? I have no idea. But there it is.

Thank you Robert, I can't think of many every-day things that show clock-pendulum behavior, swinging from one end to the opposite extreme end. Education has been cursed by it for decades, and why I sited it here. That is the reason I used it as a role model, as embarrassing as it has been.

Do I believe DSLR-mirror cameras will disappear? No. DSLR-mirrorless disappear? No. Phone cameras?
No. Record turntables? No again, in fact they are coming back in mass. See the idea? And dare I include the fact that Ilford has introduced the return to B&W film, along with Kodak? Don't think negative. Don't give up the ship.

I have a couple of thoughts to offer. First, in my world of education, I have seen the "pendulum" swing back and forth so many times, so when a "radical or different" idea comes across, especially if it is lacking common sense, just wait a few years and the "radical / different" pendulum will swing back. The downside is that it often doesn't stop at the neutral spot and continues to the other extreme. But, not to worry, it will swing back. Example: conventional classroom, one teacher and a group of students ... then "Open Space" moves across the country, usually west to east, resulting in four teachers, four groups of students, all in one large "classroom pod" configuration. Then ... educators realize it was a bad idea, then spend millions retrofitting those "Open Space" back to the traditional setting ... can you imagine? ... one teacher and a group of students. That has gone on for the three decades I taught high school, and I continue to see more changes in high schools, thankfully I am now teaching college classes.

I'm very confident this will happen in the photography world.

AND, about film? Our university has offered degrees in photography, to include both digital and film, complete with darkrooms. Over the 22 years I've been teaching college classes, (physics not photography), I've observed that enrollment has never flattened, and continues to increase.

Unusual anomaly? Remember the LP records? They haven't disappeared either. In fact, in the UK, I've learned recording stars insist their releases be offered three ways: (a) download, (b) compact disc, and (c) on LP vinyl. LP record sales also have increased in the USA for the past ten years. You did notice, didn't you, the (b) option was ... CD, standing for compact disc?

So I have not a single doubt that our DSLR (w/mirror) will continue to decrease. After all, the big camera makers must "improve the mouse trap", hence mirror-less. But DSLR, w/mirror or wo/mirror, will never disappear. In fact, I predict that sales will spike upwardly again, with aspiring photographers will bring it all back by 2030.

On that note, I'll tip toe out of here with my two 5DII bodies, three L lenses, and plan to continue shooting far into the next decade.

Odd man out, or not Jerry. I don't believe cameras are disappearing at all. I believe society is now viewing them as a phone-camera only concept. But several years from now, when people look for something "new", they will look at the DSLR ... yet again. I'm 100% confident of it.

My displaying has been in two parts. The first is to print, frame, and display on walls. We've been fortunate to have enjoyed many ocean cruises, mostly in Europe, but also in Alaska. We soon will go to Canada via a cruise ship. To all the destination, my camera has been attached to my hand, even in restaurants. There was even a last night "dance" up/down stairs in the grand restaurant on the Costa Concordia. We've also been to Egypt, Rome, Barcelona, London, and more. I mention these for there are framed captures of these. That even includes the main stairs here. So every time we go up and down to the top floor, I will see 14 of the captures on vacation. So for me, they go up on walls for us to enjoy. My second part? I no longer make prints but instead have wrapped canvas prints made, and ... of course, up on the walls. Two of those are actually 6' wide, and 4' tall. Spanish Steps in Rome, and Neptune's fountain in Florence. Most recently, I spent time at our botanical garden over a month's visits. Now, on a landing half way between the main floor and the lower level are 20 12"x12" wrapped canvas of flowers. We do have some rather cold and snow laden winters here, so seeing those is so refreshing during those cold months. Most recently, a large ferris wheel opened here. I've taken a daytime ride, complete with 57 captures. Soon, we'll take an evening ride with probably another 57 plus captures. I'm sure I'll have at least one wrapped canvas. And before anyone asks, no ... no large canvas made from those.

So, for me, I want to see the selected images, especially from our travels. What a great way to rekindle the memories.

Isaac Newton, as the story goes, sat under a tree, and as "something" fell on his head, he declared that he discovered "gravity".

F = ma, or Fw = mg . (where m = mass, and g = the pull of gravity, 9.8 m/sec^2)

Pay attention, quiz tomorrow . :)
