I'm trying to come with words to express my feelings about this image. All the things I try to accomplish- action. wild subject and incredible sharpness right there to enjoy! If this was mine it would be a large print in a prominent place for all to see!!

I can still crawl on my knees, hurts like hell and unless I find something to pull up on I can't get back up. Considering the image did come out fairly well. With my luck the little suckers would steal my nickel.

This is the Out Of Camera, not very much of the image is butterfly and the flash that the exif didn't record washed out a lot - but LR, PS and NIK managed to get a fairly decent image out of it.

After looking at the out of camera image maybe I should take some training from you and see if I still have some of the pics that I thought were trash!!

I was in my blind in the yard and something kept spooking the birds (we have hawks in the area) so while waiting for the birds to come back I looked over and a tiny butterfly or skipper was going from flower to flower on a potted milkweed plant 8'-10' away. I couldn't get closer without leaving the blind (then the birds would not come back) and I had my gear to it's max. This little guy is small enough to fit on a quarter so this is a heck of a crop.
I have a butterfly ID book, but not being into butterflies that much and at 200 pages with more than one on some pages...well I am confused is a nice way to put it.
It seems to be a pygmy blue or black eyed blue of some type but there are only 3 pictures on the two page (none matches exactly) and over 10 sub-types listed, if you count the stated differences between the Eastern and Western types. I am in California so will go with it is one of the western types.

Any one know just what it is?

80D, 100-400L mk2+1.4x III @ 560, 1/400 @ f/8.0, ISO 400 single point AF, spot meter it says no flash but I remember having the flash on set to full power using HSS
Besides the back ground is so under exposed it went black and that is a swimming pool and off white house in afternoon sun at about 3:45PM. I have only had that happen when using flash.

In the distant past, when I was able to crawl around on my knees I spent a bit of time trying to get good shots of Pygmy Blues and this certainly looks like one. This a really good shot and I'm impressed with the quality rendered by your Canon. As I recall the ones I chased would probably fit on a nickel, but I could never get one to pose with a coin to be sure.

I record an image to please myself first. If others appreciate my efforts then there is satisfaction giving them something to look at, but the final reason again is to please myself. Each and every image (transparency) I have stored in boxes is a reminder of a moment and place in time that I was doing that which I enjoy doing and not something I had to do. I would wager that I could take you to ninety percent of the places that are recorded on those images. If I were to stop and start rationalizing just how every image will look I probably would not bother to get gear out of the bag. Maybe it is to windy for most things, but not a shore bird with a tail wind ruffling its feathers. In the old days I would burn 5-6 rolls of Velvia in a trip to Borrego for wild flowers. They definitely were not all keepers but now with digital and the all important delete button I can fire away at the humming birds and quail who visit my back yard daily. They are still not all keepers but I don't have to drive an hour and a half and spend a bunch of extra money for one hour processing so that I can and throw away a lot of not real good imagery!

Very good and I would wager that you will automatically look down at that spot whenever you pass it now!

These are very as are the rest of your posts. The second image shows the wings in different positions and obviously, because the critter is flying, is not something I had ever noticed before. It never dawned on me how complex their flight is. You helped this soon to be 80 year old learn something new today. Thank you!

The bird is an adult Red-Shouldered hawk. They are noisy, but not really any danger to your pal the cat. Rodents probably make up the largest part of its diet and the birds in the yard scatter because this bird resembles a Cooper's Hawk which is very adept at snagging them for a meal!

Of course I'm kidding, but I think you should go and grab a couple more shots so that we could read more than a couple of letters/numbers on the bands! Thanks for sharing!!

Thanks for looking. Notice the squirel?

Great shots. With all the magnification we can get her meal looks like an immature pigeon to me. (check the feet) I only wish the Coopers Hawk that frequents our feeding area would pick a nice pole to dine on instead of the center of a citrus tree!!

I skipped to the end of this because it seems that a lot of people are just playing the blame game and wringing their hands in despair over the pile of money this will cost them. I have lived in California for most of my 79 years and paid sales tax all the years that it was required on the items I bought. I shop at one of the local photo stores. I ordered a D850 from this store and had it in less than a month. The price was the same, before sales tax, as the online stores. My purchase from that business will help it stay in business and I have not had to claim bankruptcy, and when I have a question I get to look in the eyes of the person who helps me. That personal contact means a great deal to me

These are all great, but the one that fascinates is #6. It almost looks as if it were painted, but the one out of focus leg gives away as a photograph. It took me a while to notice that leg because I was sort of overwhelmed by the detail in the rest of the image I think it's magnificent!!
