I own the original RX 10 and I love it. Great glass, fantastic video and ease of operation, and the mark 3 can only be better. I don't see how you can go wrong.

I just recently acquired a Sony RX10 for the express reasons you mentioned. I got a great price on Ebay and couldn't be more happy with the camera. It has a 28-200mm Zeiss f2.8 lens and great video. Just like any quality DSLR it has all the bells and whistles while also being able to operate in manual. I made the decision after pricing Zeiss lenses for my other cameras. It was a no brainer for me. There are several fine cameras out there and I'm sure you will get various recommendations. I was just impressed with the really nice glass that the Sony has. Good luck!

I have a Sony a6000 and the adapter you mentioned. It works fine with all my Minolta and Sony A mount auto focus lenses. I also have the adapters for Canon and Minolta manual focus lenses. The only problem I have with the Sony auto focus adapter is the odd shape. This allows the tripod mount to be on the lens and thus take the pressure off the lens mount. I find this shape awkward and therefore have come to avoid using it if I can. Just my preference. It does however work very well with the A mount auto focus lenses. I seriously doubt there is one iota difference in US or Australia origin as they both bear the same model number.

I have several Sony bodies but I bought a Sony Bridge Camera last week. My main reason was the stabilized Zeiss 24-200mm f2.8. I got a great deal on the camera used and would not ever be able to afford a comparable lens for my DSLR. I am thrilled with the Zeiss lens and the bridge camera as it has all the same settings as the DSLR's, not to mention great video. I have decided to sell at least two of my DSLR's and maybe three. I have been won over by the bridge camera and my A6000 with e mount lenses.

That's so true! I constantly find myself looking at my surroundings and thinking "how would I try to shoot that?" It has definitely made me more aware of what's going on around me.

It looks like most agree about the wild variations that are possible. Back in the 70's I lived in Colorado Springs for about 4 years which I totally enjoyed. I had a 1969 convertible Chevy impala then. On the Saturday before Mother's day we were riding through the mountains with the top down. It was a beautiful day. When we got home I parked the car in front of the house and left the top down. Those were vastly different days. In any case, the next morning I woke up to find 6 inches of beautiful white snow in the car. Needless to say that was a learning experience. I hadn't thought of that in years, but your question brought it back to mind. That of course was in May and not September. I don't know how many times I went to work or school with fresh snow on the ground, only to have it all gone when I returned home later that same day.

My first camera was a Canon A1 w 50mm f1.8 lens. I absolutely loved this camera, but when auto focus came out I was amazed and enthralled with that, so I went with a Minolta Maxxum 7000. I always regretting selling the Canon A1 and over the years have acquired several more. It has always been my favorite by far! I now shoot digital, but I still own several of my old standbys.

Nice shot! I remember that movie from when I was a little kid. Scared us to death. Almost laughable now.

Gary Fong has some very good tutorials on YouTube. I have a Sony a6000 and learned a lot from his videos. I pretty much watched everything on YouTube about the a6000. Good luck! I have no doubt you will love the a6500.

Every time I begin to feel comfortable enough to ask a question or make a comment on this site a snarky response appears and convinces me otherwise.

I have been reading this forum for a few weeks and have found it interesting and refreshing. I'm an amateur photographer in South Arkansas. I currently have 5 different Sony mirrorless cameras and I am total fan of the Sony line. I'm always looking to learning something new and that is what has intrigued me about this forum. So, greetings to you all from South Arkansas and I look forward to reading your posts in the future.
