My daughter has a Nikon D3400 with the 18-55 lens and 70-300 lens kit. She takes amazing photos of her boys with it, but barely uses the 18-55 lens. I was thinking of a holiday gift of the 18-140? Would like to get a low aperture, but boy does the price increase when you do this! Any thoughts on a lens upgrade would be appreciated. Personally, I only stick with Nikon lenses, but I know there are other good ones out there. Thanks!

I have been shooting with Nikon since the 70's. I now have the D5300. Although Nikon produces better DSLR's in full frame format, I really like my DX camera and didn't want to pay for more camera than I would need. I had my old film camera, the F2, for over 20 years! The problem today is that technology changes so fast....it is unlikely I will have any digital camera for more than 5-7 years at this time. Good luck!

Great to see these photos! I am going to Yellowstone/Grand Teton in 3 weeks, and this is on our to-do list. However, I read somewhere that the road could be closed after Labor Day???? Do you know anything about that? I'd hate to miss it! Thanks!

What great responses I am getting. I have booked 3 nights at Canyon Village and 2 nights at the Lake Hotel in YNP. At Grand Teton, we are staying at Colter Bay for 3 nights and finishing up in Jackson for 1 night. Looking forward to some great landscape shooting. By the way, has anyone used a silicone protection cover for their camera? Thinking of getting one.

I will be there next month. I've seem some photos posted on this website that look stunning. Any advice on touring the area, best scenic areas, wildlife spotting, etc. would be appreciated. I have my Nikon 10-24 wide angle, and 300 telephone DX ready to go! Thanks!

I appreciate the responses. Just looking for options instead of buying a new tripod.

I have a 30 year old Gitzo Tripod. It is not a quick release. Should I replace the entire head? Or just buy the quick release part? Does Gitzo sell these parts? Or should I just get a new tripod? Thoughts?

I have the Nikon D5300 and my daughter has the D3400. Both are very good cameras. My daughter takes lots of photos of her toddler and baby without the flash and the photos are amazing. There are some good deals out there now.

I like the wide angle view for landscape and architectural photos.

I just bought a used Nikon 10-24 DX lens from BH. It's in great condition and I used it this past weekend.

After putting the photos on my Mac, I noticed that the left side of the photos were slightly blurry while the right side was crystal clear. I have never seen nor heard of anything like this.

I am calling BH in a few hours. It is still under warranty, and so will return and buy a new lens - even though I will have to dish out $200 more.

Otherwise I love this lens. Any thoughts out there on what is wrong with the lens I bought? I am shooting with the D5300. Thanks all!

I purchased Luminar a couple of months back. I like the ease of use with my Mac, and there are quite a few tutorials out there to learn the program. I have not taken the time to fully learn all the bells and whistles. So far though, I see that it offers more than my Photos application with plenty of filters to choose from. For the price, it was worth it.

I bit the bullet and bought the Nikon 10-24 lens for my D5300. Bought used from B&H for $679. It is in perfect condition. I use it for interior home shots mostly.
