Sue,

first, sounds like a great trip.

Second, if you have figures moving in your composition you will need a shutter speed that will stop the action (unless you purposefully want blur-which is also very cool) which means a higher ISO. The longer the shutter stays open the lower the ISO can be.

you may also want to switch to a different metering mode. Play around with 'spot' metering.

I am not an expert but i do know there are some good articles out there about the ISO, f-stop, shutter triangle.

how much weight do you want to carry around? Are you going light, 1 camera, 1 lens, no tripod? Or are you going full kit? If you will be shooting inside any castles or historic structures you will likely encounter some dark areas. What ever you get for general purpose, you may want to add a cheap, light, small, fast lens ( Canon 50mm f1.8 ) as well.

I hope you have a fantastic trip!

btw, if you end up deciding you are interested in adding a wide angle zoom I have a 11-16mm f2.8 I've been thinking about letting go of.

Couple of things here to consider:

What is your target media? Digital, web, snapshots, posters?

What type of subjects do you typically shoot?

These things can influence how many MP you 'need'. More is not always better. The more megapixels get crammed onto a sensor the smaller the photocell become. yes, you get higher resolution, but each photocell is grabbing light less effectively. So it really is a balancing act.

Overall, i would say do not go less than 12MP these days. if you shoot micro 4/3 16 is fine and there are great deals out there right now. if you shoot Fuji (their x-trans sensors are AMAZING for shooting) 16 is fine, 24 is better. Garden variety DSLRs whatever you buy will be fine.

Hi, I have done computer sales and repair and consulting professionally in the past (though it is not what I do now). What laptop are you using now? It seems like you are using some 'comes with windows' software. The problem may not be the computer, it may be poorly written software. Can you send me the specs (processor, ram, free HD space) on your machine as the name (and version number) of the software you are currently using?

I need help in deciding on a new laptop or getting a photo editing program for my current laptop. I just use the windows 10 editing now. But it keeps kicking me out after 2-3 photos edited. My computer guy told me I should probably have a Mac Air just for doing photos on. But I'm not sure if he was just trying to get me to buy on or not. Any ideas??

I'd suggest carrying something wider than a 50mm as well. Caves can be pretty close.

Gorgeous stuff! My family comes from Iowa and I have been back there many times, though not in recent memory. It took me growing older (not up) to appreciate the beauty of that place. Thanks for the reminder.

If you are unsure save the $ by getting the x-t20 and pick up a reallllly nice lens with the remaining money you would have dropped on the x-t2!

Both the XT20 and the XT2 are very good cameras. However, do not make the mistake that the XT20 is a small XT2. If you have smallish hands and want a travel or street camera the XT20 is the camera for you. It has the same sensor and Xtran 3 processor as the XT2. This is were the comparison ends. While the focusing speed of the XT20 is fast, the XT2 with the battery grip is lighting fast. The XT20 while it has a semi touch screen for focusing its optical viewfinder is a little smaller than the very large XT2 viewfinder. Also, while the XT20 can shoot 4k video for 10 minutes the XT2 can shoot 4 k video for up to 30 minutes with the battery grip. Finally, the XT2 has two memory card slots while the XT20 has one memory card slot.

For the money only you can decide which Fuji camera is right for you. It all comes down to what your intended purpose is for the camera. I am sold on my Fuji camera and lenses and you can't go wrong with your decision to buy a Fuji.

This is not entirely correct. The X-t20 also has the save tracking system and implementation (minus 1 customizable tracking set) as the X-T2. The touchscreen on the X-t20 can be used to focus, but also to shoot, which makes it very nice for 'stealth' photography. I have both and find myself picking up the X-t20 more often because of the size. I have big hands and it is not too small a body to hold easily.

Buy an Olympus OM-D E-M10ii for less than $500 (you can even get some kits that come with 2 lenses) and leave it set on auto if you want a cheap, expandable point and shoot. Better price, better pictures, better growth.

Are you at all willing to break up the package? I have an OM-D 10ii myself but might be interested in the batteries and leather case.

Olympus OMD EM10ii is going to be smallest and you can pick up a body for under $500 right now. Fuji is going to have the best image quality and lenses/lens lineup. I'd recommend an X-t20 and one of their pancakes if you go that route. If price is no object pick up a Fuji range-finder style with a fixed lens. Awesome!
