Nice shots! I do think the third photo is actually a female though, not a young male. I just got a shot of a female at Santa Ana NWR in South Texas. Where did you find these guys?

Went for a walk in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas today and watched these two Crested Caracara land together on this structure out in a field. It was a long distance out to them and all I had with me was my SX50. I noticed something wrong with the first shots I took and I couldn't figure it out quickly so I switched to fully Auto and tried again hand held zoomed out to 1200mm. This is what I got and I still had to crop the shot in LR. Not the best photo but, again, I really enjoyed the subject matter so I'll take what I get! Love these birds!

Does this mean we now have an LGBTQACDC community we have to remember?! Our newscasts are going to get longer and longer as reporters' tongues and brains get twisted up!

New Zealand is a photography paradise...glaciers, fiords, Rotorua (NZ Yellowstone), rivers, flowers, birds, ocean, beaches, mountains, etc. etc.!! Take as much as you can, especially if you can transport the equipment easily in an RV once you get there! And enjoy! It is a great place to spend a month!

We just got to the Rio Grande Valley in very southern Texas near Mission, TX. Really good place for birds and butterflies. We are here for 3 months at the Bentsen Palms Village RV Resort right next to Bentsen Palms Birding State Park on the Rio Grande River. These are some of the first shots I have managed in the area. The Brahma along with her herd are our neighbors across the fence. I named her Joan Rivers for reasons at least obvious to me! The funny looking birds are Plain Chachalacas. Curious little creatures you will only see down here and in Mexico where they are hunted. We enjoy just watching them. The bird on my RV mirror is a Curve-billed Thrasher. Loved watching him also. His lower foot kept slipping down the chrome and he would have to haul it back up again. Thrashers have beautiful songs they sing. Any ideas why the Chachalaca photos came out so blue looking? 5DMII with Tamron 28-300 all Auto (P) with single center focus. Light was not very good. All other photos taken the same and all are handheld.

It would hard to find a more beautiful hike than the Fire Wave area anywhere. But, two hours won't cut it and early morning is best. We've done almost every hike at Valley of Fire and loved every one of them but you need more time!

I forgot to mention, Captain Wayne's boat excursion out of Witless Bay is the best day boat trip we have ever taken. His boat is small but very seaworthy so he can get you close to whales, puffins and other sea birds. There were 8 people on our trip and they really rake care of you! Not far from St. John's!

We spent two months in Newfoundland in 2014. It is a wonderful place to visit. We took our motorhome across from NS on the ferry. Loved the people and the things to see. Our least favorite place was probably St. John's. Our most favorite places were probably St. Anthony area, Cape St. Mary's, Witless Bay, Gros Morne NP and Fogo Island. Of those, Fogo Island is over-the-top unique, Cape St. Mary's is so, so special because of all the nesting Gannets, Murres, Razorbills, etc., Gros Morne is special for the Tablelands and St. Anthony area was great for icebergs, Burnt Cape and L'anse aux Meadows. Take some warm clothes. You don't go to Newfoundland for the weather! Enjoy one of our favorite places on earth!

Love Bentsen Rio Grande State Park south of Mission. We will be spending 3 months in the RV park next door this winter. You will see birds there you can only see in very few other parts of the USA. Close by is also Estero Llano State Park which is great. Port Aransas and Mustang Island for shore birds. Take a boat to see the Whooping Cranes!

You might look at Mefoto on Amazon. I just got a travel tripod I like for carrying around. Most colors were $199 but the yellow was only $145.
