Thank you for the recommendation, I’ll check him out.

I second Hudson Henry. He has a 4 part series on setting up the Z9/Z8. The first one is long, as he hits every menu item, but the next one is fairly short as your base bank settings are baked in.

Dell XPs with 2TB SSD (1TB Free) ND DATA DRIVE IS 458gb (116GB Free.).. Intel i9, 38GB DDR4. I am not a computer person (I hate them actually). What do you think ?

It's not your PC. Plenty of space and speed. Working from latest version of LR? How big are your camera files?

I’m an amateur shooting high school hockey on a Z8 with a Nikon 70-200mm 2.8 GII lens.
I shoot shutter priority setting my shutter speed at 1250 and iso on auto as high as 5000.
When i edit my pictures the lighting varies and in LR it shows my F stop will vary from 3 to 7.4. How can I stop the F stop from fluctuating ?

It's HS hockey. In some of those barns you're lucky you can even see the players

I try to shoot a lot of sports. The light is always different and usually sub-standard until you reach college level of play. Be glad you are indoors and fairly constant source.

Manual SS, Aperture, and Auto-ISO is the most pain-free way to shoot. Don't be scared of a high ISO. The Z8 will produce acceptable images up to about. 10-12,000. You might have to "wash" a few with Denoise in LR.

After several years of good performance, my LRC is now crashing several times every day (past two weeks). Adobe agent conversations have not helped. After two hours of chat with an agent, NADA. He had me make adjustments to my computer graphics card which he thought was the problem. Needless to say, it didn't work. Also, I get a message from Adobe every crash, saying an error has occured, send my contact info, and they will be back to me.
Have never heard back. I am ready to switch to another program, but hate the idea of learning a new system. Any suggestions?

You don't mention HD or PC specs. Besides rolling back, have you considered adding more storage and/or RAM?
I have found that sudden new crashes are often caused by lack of adequate workspace or RAM or video card size as file sizes grow. Are you on LRC subscription or running an old 6.0 version?

If you are a sponsor how about co-ed boxing in the Olympiad? Perfect way to eliminate discrimination in sports is to include everyone.

My agency was a sponsor of this event, not the Olympics. But my first photo is of two women boxers, that winner and 7 others qualified in their bouts for the Olympic team training in Colorado Springs and to fight at the Olympics in Paris, France in July. So I'm not sure what your beef is?

Last week my city hosted the USA Olympic Trials for boxing. As a sponsor, I was able to wrangle a VIP credential and take some photos ringside.

I just saw my first commercial for Photoshop ever. It featured someone using the AI generation feature to amuse a child. I think the commercial is somewhat of a head-scratcher. Who is the intended market? Is it people who have never heard of Photoshop? Cell phone shooters?

Grandparents.

Thanks BigDaddy for your clear explanation of how editing is performed and saved...for sure it's a clarification for all of us.
This DxO editing procedure is non-distructive to the original files...they're still on the card. A new .dxo file with edits is created and saved on the card along side the original file, (until the card is reformatted). I haven't seen this "save edit to card" option on other PP software I've used. If someone has...please tell me about this overlook feature...thanks

Destructive or non-destructive has no bearing on this workflow. That is not the issue even though you keep putting that up as a defense to your reasoning. Driving a Maserati at 95 mph down a residential street with no seat belt is non-destructive.... until it is. You might get away with it for a while, but eventually only bad things can happen.

Sorry, here's my answer....this powerful DxO program can open/read/edit the files on the BEFORE import. You can cull and edit original files and create a new file ON THE CARD that can be imported to any program of your choice for further editing if you choose to do so. I find this editor more helpful than opening and importing unedited card files straight into Lightroom and then editing with that program. I hope this is clear?

All you are doing is taking three lefts to make a right. You can import from card and edit everything all at once, or you can edit on card, then import, then edit some more.

But you wind up in the same place. The difference is you expose yourself to corrupting the card or making a save or delete mistake during edits and losing all the images. By the way, you can do this workflow method with almost any editing software. Just let it recognize the card in camera as another drive. Same as a portable external SSD drive.

Yes, you have misunderstood my observation of this DxO product and it's use in workflow...(sorry about that). I NEVER IMPLIED STORAGE ON THE SD CARD!

Let me try to make it clear (for windows). 1>Insert SD card into a reader, 2>Open DxO program 3>(Using DxO program) Locate drive with card files, 4>perform your edits, 5>use the EXPORT button (for the newly edited file) to disk (same SD card), Lightroom, other PP programs or for further editing or storage!
I export to Lightroom for final editing and then file management-storage pm a (very large) external / desktop hard drive...not the SD card. Like other UHH users, I re-format my SD card for another shoot.
Yes, you have misunderstood my observation of this... (show quote)

Just seems like an added step to workflow. Kind of like washing your hands and face at the sink before stepping into the shower.

I have pretty much always used 32g cards. Big enough.
I use a full frame Canon R6 so the files are pretty big.
It brings me in around 1,000 frames.
Generally on a 2 week travel vacation I will pretty much fill a card and sometimes I'll use 2 camera so 32g each.

I did manage to fill 4 cards on a recent to Iceland... never before more than 2.
After a trip I'll generally save the cards and file them.
Locally I'll erase and reuse the cards.

I see but can't really grasp using a giant card... 256g, more?
Why?

Anyway,

In October Lightroom (the cloudy one) got a "Local" tab. I ignored it. Now, for two days, I've been watching and learning about it.

The "Local" tab makes everything useful in Classic's Develop module available without dealing with a importing or a catalog. The local tab navigates to any file in any folder and allows you to work on it, quickly and simply.

Have you tried it?

Matt Kloslowski is pitching a course on it and jumping his workflow to LR. I had never downloaded it beforr, but it seems promising. Wonder why no fanfare from Adobe?

Like a lot of people, whenever I go on a photo trip where I am spending multiple days photographing, I like to take a lap top with me. Every night I will copy the images to my lap top to review the photos. I don’t spend much time tweaking them, but I review to see what they look like and if, maybe I need to reshoot at that location. I do most of the work on the images on my desktop when I get home. My lap top has failed and needs to be replaced. My family is suggesting that I buy an iPad instead of a lap top. I have found out that Lightroom will work on an iPad. Has anyone used an iPad in this way and/or what would be your recommendations concerning this issue?

I sat next to a pro sports shooter, having him flip through 2-300 images on his iPad. He had LR and Photo Mechanic installed and months of work on the iPad. He was able to cull quickly and mark those that he wanted to edit further. Sure seemed a lot easier than carrying around a laptop. Although in the media room, there were MacBook Air and Pro at several workstations. But I'm seriously considering a higher-storage Ipad for vacation trips.
