I have pretty much always used 32g cards. Big enough.
I use a full frame Canon R6 so the files are pretty big.
It brings me in around 1,000 frames.
Generally on a 2 week travel vacation I will pretty much fill a card and sometimes I'll use 2 camera so 32g each.
I did manage to fill 4 cards on a recent to Iceland... never before more than 2.
After a trip I'll generally save the cards and file them.
Locally I'll erase and reuse the cards.
I see but can't really grasp using a giant card... 256g, more?
Why?
Anyway,
What does everybody think on this?

My cards for my Canon R5 are SD 128GB Extreme Pro (300 MB/S) and in the second slot SD CFExpress Extreme Pro 128GB (Read 1700 MB/S - Write 1200 MB/S)
I usually buy what speeds/sizes Canon recommends.
I also buy only DanDisk products because I have never had a failure using their products.
All of my "Off Brand Bargain" cards developed problems or failed altogether, shortly after purchase, and are now seeing service in my digital picture frames.
As far as "giant cards" go, maybe they are being used for movies, time exposure, and other uses I know very little about.
As far as "giant cards" go my 128GB cards are now rather modest in size.
Other UHH members will cringe at putting all of your eggs (pics/files) in a single memory card basket.
I haven't had a single failure using a SanDisk or any other "Name Brand" card.
One last thought, "knock-offs" are being sold that look just like the real thing.
Always buy from a reliable source, such as
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=sd%20cards&N=0&InitialSearch=yes&sts=psor
https://www.adorama.com/l/?searchinfo=sd%20memory%20card Maybe they won't be as attractive price-wise, but they will perform and these stores will stand behind what they sell. Remember, if the price is too good to be true . . . .
Best Wishes,

8s & 16s.
My 12+ year old camera can't use 32+.
On my cameras with 2 slots I typically use a 128 for raw images and 64 for jpg.

Thanks for the replies.
128g will have maybe 4,000 frames?
Do you erase and keep using the card? Curious how you manage the flow.
You download the card every once in awhile in normal use?
I always find it daunting to look at several thousand photos to edit or select for processing.

I transfer everything to a desktop at the end of each day of shooting and put different cards in the camera.. I delete everything except what I know I will use. I keep the remainder on my desktop and a copy to an external drive.
I have enough cards that I can rotate them. That way I know I have what I want before those cards get used again.

I've found 32GB and 64GB to be fine. I don't usually take thousands of shots in one day, and if I do, I can carry spare cards.
I also use 32GB cards but if you have a camera with larger file size you may want to use larger card. I base my card size on the battery capacity and largest file size (uncompressed raw and jpeg). I pick a card size so that when I shoot raw+jpeg I will run out of battery power before the card is full. I would replace both the battery and the card at the same time. Since I don't shoot a lot I never ran out of battery power in a day. At the end of the day I would recharge the battery, transfer the images to my computer, format the card and ready for next.

I shoot;
come home & copy to computer;
after for Carbonite backs them up (if a ton I manually backup locally also) and erase the card(s) <on the computer>;
Put card(s) back in camera or card wallet <no re-formatting>.
I peruse the images.
I only edit images I'm going to
use for something (printing, web, gifts, whatever).
I don't edit every stinkin' image I take, only when I'm going to use it. Why spend all that time editing when the results will just sit on the computer for most of them. I don't live to edit.
I don't take thousands of shots, I'm very selective in what I shoot.
My largest "haul" was about 800 shots for a week in coastal Maine one time.
Nothing less than 300MB/sec...and nothing less than 128GB

Interesting.
I have no idea the speed my cards.
I just use them.
They work.
I have 64, 128 and 256 for my R5s. I have filled a 64 in one morning in Africa on with a good sighting. I format the 64 or 128 SD card every afternoon and evening after downloading the photos to 2 separate travel hard drives. I then change out the 128 CF card as it gets full and keep it as a 3rd back up. I have at least 3 extra 128 CF cards with me and one 256. I have had to format once when I came home with over 20,000 images….

Started with 8 and 16. When I moved to D3/4/5 they used XQD cards so I had to get new ones. Got a couple 32s and 64s. They are still in use. For large events I use the 64s. Have only had to add the 32s once. I use the 32s for normal use just to keep them in use. More to check that they're still OK than for any real usage reason.
