I had used a gold reflector in indoor lighting several years ago and it did not work. But yours outside look very natural. It adds to the ambience and is very smooth. Good shots and the D850 photos look great.
Thanks! I was worried about the reflector in the middle of the day.
My wife, daughter and I went to the oceanfront yesterday (it was an unusually warm winter day) and I took a few shots with my D850 and Tamron 70-200 2.8 G2 lens using off camera flash and a gold reflector. Does the gold add too much? Appreciate all feedback!
Yes, I have used it with the D500 and D850. I was initially disappointed in the image quality, but it was due to my technique. After fine tuning and really applying long lens techniques (I am still learning), much better results.
I am puzzled by the number of folks using high ISO. Why not slow down a bit and use what the base ISO has to offer.... Like incredible dynamic range in some cameras...
Ron, thank you for your post. I've been thinking about this, and based on your post, I went out to experiment in my back yard. I shot a series of pictures at ISO 64 (camera is a D850) with desired shutter speed and aperture, followed by ones with the ISO adjusted to get a 'zero' on exposure. While the ISO 64 images were very underexposed, they proved much better than the higher ISO images after some simple slides in Lightroom. Here is an original after adjusting exposure in LR (original was like a black image) and a 100% crop of the same image.
So...here are some samples of the 500+ shots. Question to the group.... Appears to have some glare on faces from the SB-5000. I was using the SB-5000 with built-in diffuser and white card for bounce flash. Would a diffuser (looking at at Fong product, but also checked www.aliexpress.com and they are half the Fong price) diminish that facial glare? The depth of Field is noticeable in some of these shots, but the detail and color just POP! Wonder what it would have looked like with the 24-70, although this 28-300 walkabout lens did a great job! Comments welcome!
So...here are some samples of the 500+ shots. br Q... (show quote)
With regard to lens choice, yes, definitely the 24-70 would have been better all day long. Even a 50mm prime.
