I'm not sure if the lighting is too dark. According to the view I am seeing on my screen it doesn't seem that way. Will calibrating give me the correct lighting one will see from other computers?

Yes

It sounds like its time for an upgrade by Nikon? Maybe the 760? 755? Perhaps this is a clearance sale? The lens included though is awesome!

Any corporation who picks sides deserves the fallout it receives from the side that it passed over. I'm too heavily invested in Nikon glass but I will keep my camera a little longer. And when I go looking for a replacement I will buy used.

Although this is a really nice gesture on your part, its too risky. Even with a legal release, video tape and witnesses present. The issue that I see as a mine field is what she will be wearing. Model portfolios usually include bikini or swimsuit photos. Meaning is she revealing lots of cleavage or leg. You could still be accused of taking lewd pictures of a minor. I know its a stretch but we live in a sue happy society and perhaps some DA will take up the case. Even if she was over 18, middle aged white guys get accused of lots of crap.

The D500 is the D300/D300s replacement. I used to shoot with a D300s. I liked the camera a lot but its dynamic range was not good. Shadow areas would often block up and be void of detail. I have a D500 now. Its image quality and performance are far superior to the D300s.

Plus you can use your existing lenses

In theory yes, however the loss of stops is very significant and will result in a poor photo.

One bad thing about owning your own printer is that even unused ink is consumed. Recently I needed prints really quickly and was not at home. I went to a CVS and got 4x6's for 33 cents each. 8x10's were on sale for 1.40$

Ink for my printer costs about 99$ and although it gets used its not that often.

Its rare that a camera purchase is considered an investment. Like a car its a deprecating asset. Given the technology progress it will be obsolete in 2 to 3 years.

However, lenses are exception. They depreciate much slower and last a lot longer and within the same camera line they can still be used (more or less).

Inside sports are tricky due to lighting, or lack of. Usually when I shoot indoor sports I use a fast long lens, nikon 80/200 f2.8. I experiment with the ISO setting before hand but usually 3200 for a fast shutter speed. I set the camera to Aperture mode and set that to 2.8. You may need to play with the white balance depending on the light.

Sometimes you can stop at the gift shop and buy the postcard. It's a lot cheaper than a new lens. <big grin>

There are nine cartridges of 80ml each and they cost around $56 apiece. What I do is I buy one or two and then wait a month or two, buy another, etc. I spread out the replenishment and it's affordable. Plus these large cartidges last a long time--months, even printing every day. Last, the printer does VERY WELL at printing cleanly after a week or more of being idle.

Thanks
