I am wondering what effect if any Nikon dropping out of the recent NRA annual convention has on this community. I am wondering how many of you guys are gun buffs and are angry or happy at Nikon's actions. Forty years ago I was a large gun dealer in NY and the very first dealer to sell Nikon rifle scopes. Me thinks, most gun people will no longer buy their very good scopes, but what about camera gear?

It will have no effect on me, I don't buy current Nikon gear but my comment would be "what a dumba$$ move."

It just illustrates that those who run Corporations have the same poor reasoning skills as individuals who don't.

I am wondering if this debate is really a necessary one... Don't we have enough strident opinion exchanges in other public venues. I am weary of vitriolic "non-discussions". In the end, people will simply make a choice and decide what they want to do, and I seriously doubt of the coming exchange here will make a lot of difference...

Any corporation who picks sides deserves the fallout it receives from the side that it passed over. I'm too heavily invested in Nikon glass but I will keep my camera a little longer. And when I go looking for a replacement I will buy used.

Every Corporations make decisions. What ever decision they make will possibly anger some segment of the population. My feeling is if you liked and used their products before their decision, than just keep using it. But this just my opinion.

If the leaders of a corporation are not comfortable with their association with an organization, they certainly have the right to end their relationship with that organization. Consumers certainly have the right to choose to purchase merchandise produced by corporations aligned with their own moral compass. I will continue to use Nikon gear and I have more respect for Nikon because they stood up for their principles.

Corporations that voluntarily throw away any part of their market deserve every bit of misfortune they get.

Hopefully, people base their buying decisions on specs and performance. I'll continue to "shoot" with Nikon camera gear.

As a side note, accidental shootings go way down during NRA conventions because there are so many people attending these events.

They didn't really "Stand up for their principles", but rather backed out quietly. This could have been due to promotional budget cuts, no new products, small market share (for hunting scopes/binoculars), as well as trying to distance themselves from the NRA. Who knows? They didn't say. This doesn't appear to be the same situation as was brought on by companies such as Dick's Sporting Goods, who dug a huge chasm between themselves and the NRA.

I will continue using/buying Nikon products, as I do believe they have every right to pull advertising dollars for what ever reason. From everything I've read. they pulled their sponsorship at this event, but didn't slam the NRA on their way out the door.

I am a Nikon user, and a NRA Life Endowment member.
