I just ordered a Canon 6D with Pixma-Pro 100 Printer. With it comes an American Express Rewards Card for $350.
I know you can use it to purchase things, but would prefer to cash it and put the money into the bank. Does anyone know exactly how this can be done??

Depending on your other income up to 85% of Social Security benefits can be federally taxable, some states and localities may also tax it. Age has nothing to do with Social Security federal tax liability, as for states and cities it varies. Here's part of a recent IRS publication....

Social Security Benefits and Your Taxes

IRS Tax Tip 2015-25, February 24, 2015

If you receive Social Security benefits, you may have to pay federal income tax on part of your benefits. These IRS tips will help you determine whether or not you need to pay taxes on your benefits. They also explain the best way to file your tax return.
•Form SSA-1099. If you received Social Security in 2014, you should receive a Form SSA-1099, Social Security Benefit Statement, showing the amount of your benefits.

•Only Social Security. If Social Security was your only income in 2014, your benefits may not be taxable. You also may not need to file a federal income tax return. If you get income from other sources you may have to pay taxes on some of your benefits.

•Free File. Use IRS Free File to prepare and e-file your tax return for free. If you earned $60,000 or less, you can use brand-name software. The software does the math for you and helps avoid mistakes. If you made more than $60,000, you can use Free File Fillable Forms. This option uses electronic versions of IRS paper forms. It is best for people who are used to doing their own taxes. Free File is available only on IRS.gov/freefile.

•Interactive Tax Assistant. The IRS has a helpful tool that you can use to see if any of your benefits are taxable. Visit IRS.gov and use the Interactive Tax Assistant.

•Tax Formula. Here’s a quick way to find out if you must pay taxes on your Social Security benefits: Add one-half of your Social Security to all your other income, including tax-exempt interest. Then compare the total to the base amount for your filing status. If your total is more than the base amount, some of your benefits may be taxable.

•Base Amounts. The three base amounts are:

◦$25,000 – if you are single, head of household, qualifying widow or widower with a dependent child or married filing separately and lived apart from your spouse for all of 2014
◦$32,000 – if you are married filing jointly
◦$0 – if you are married filing separately and lived with your spouse at any time during the year

I have been on a lot of cruises. For a variety of reasons I've found it best to take a point and shoot like a Canon SX50. Trying to maneuver around a cruise ship, sometimes on and off tenders and up and down stairways is not a good place for a big bag full of lenses and bodies. In fact I frequently use the SX50 or S120....probably for 90% of my pictures. Same quality, much easier to carry and use.

There should be lots of these on sale on Black Friday and between now and Christmas. Just about any printer you buy now will probably work with XP as many people are still using it. I like the Canon printers, but other brands are good, too.

How's the battery? Sometimes if the battery is weak you will have this problem.

Very ingenious! I am sure if a similar commercially-built product is available it will be in the $400-$500 range, at least!

My experience with Nikon on cameras and binoculars is that they will come up with any kind of story to try and get out of providing warranty service. If it's still under warranty I would take it back to where I bought and ask for a replacement and let them deal with the company. A reputable firm that wants to keep you as a customer should have no problem with that.

I've used several "CAT" lenses with mixed results taking pix of rocket launches from about 3 miles away. Conventional lenses longer than about 500mm get to be very expensive. CAT lenses normally have VERY shallow depth of field and may produce little out of focus circles in your pictures, depending on the lighting and background. Most also have maximum apertures of f/8 or f/11, which means you will have to use a high ISO speed to be able to take pictures with a compatible high shutter speed. To get good pictures of moving objects you need strong sunlight and a very heavy duty tripod, preferably weighted-down to help eliminate vibration. Just holding your camera in your hands with such a lens can cause unacceptable vibration, so a cable release or short self-timer (2 sec) may help. You probably also want a camera body which can run at 5 frames per second or better. You will be shooting lots of pix!

I've bought about 600 items on eBay and have only had problems with 3, 2 of which were resolved; 1 was a small dollar amount which was not worth pursuing. If you're buying any kind of goods, ask all the questions you can think of, first, and keep a copy of all the replies. If they won't answer all your questions I would walk. If they state "no returns" I'd walk, particularly on used gear. If the price seems too good to be true, it probably isn't true. If it doesn't have a valid USA warranty, I wouldn't buy unless they offer their own warranty and you are convinced it is legit. If it is a grey market item, you may not be able to get the USA importer to honor the warranty.

One thing to keep in mind with eBay is that many of the used camera sellers aren't strictly in the camera business. Most sell a variety of products for other people and really may not know anything about what they are selling so they likely won't be able to tell you anything about what you want to buy.

Frankly, on new camera gear I've almost always found a better deal from Adorama or BH, both of which are extremely reputable operations. I'd rather deal with an outfit which you know is likely to be in business next week and will stand behind their products. Most eBay sellers are probably pretty honest, but how do you determine which ones?

Windows10 is going to sell a lot of Apple computers....just like the Windows 8 disaster....many folks have had it with Microsoft and the junk they foster on us, whether we want it or not.

If Win10 works for you, fine. It doesn't work for me very well. I work in IT and have tried Win10 on 4 of my home computers, doing clean installations on them all. In every case, no browser I've tried works very well...Internet Explorer, Edge, Firefox and Chrome all are extremely slow on Win10. I've seem no solution offered by Microsoft including this latest "upgrade."

My advice: if you have Win10 and it works for you, great, stay with it. If you have Win7 or some other operating system and it's working for you then stay with it. I see no reason to "upgrade" to Win10...unless and until Microsoft makes it useable.

Once upon a time there was a king who wanted to go fishing.

He called the royal weather forecaster and inquired as to the weather forecast for the next few hours. The weatherman assured him that there was no chance of rain in the coming days.

So the king went fishing with his wife, the queen. On the way he met a farmer on his donkey. Upon seeing the king the farmer said, "Your Majesty, you should return to the palace at once because in just a short time I expect a huge amount of rain to fall in this area".

The king was polite and considerate, he replied: "I hold the palace meteorologist in high regard. He is an extensively educated and experienced professional. And besides, I pay him very high wages. He gave me a very different forecast. I trust him and I will continue on my way." So he continued on his way.

However, a short time later a torrential rain fell from the sky. The King and Queen were totally soaked and their entourage chuckled upon seeing them in such a shameful condition.

Furious, the king returned to the palace and gave the order to fire the professional. Then he summoned the farmer and offered him the prestigious and high paying role of royal forecaster.

The farmer said, "Your Majesty, I do not know anything about forecasting. I obtain my information from my donkey. If I see my donkey's ears drooping, it means with certainty that it will rain."

So the king hired the donkey.

And thus began the practice of hiring dumb asses to work in the government and occupy its highest and most influential positions.

And the practice is unbroken to this date...

I have had Windows 10 on 2 PCs.....now on only 1 after I took it back to Windows 7 Pro. The problem is that every browser I've tried, including Edge (which is supposed to be THE Win 10 browser) is slow and regularly locks up with Windows 10....Firefox, Internet Explorer 11 and Chrome all can go from fast to dead stop on Windows 10....I would advise anyone to wait at least 6 months before trying to use any kind of new operating system. Since Win 10 was released on July 29, 2015 that would be waiting until at least the end of January, 2016. I am really considering a total switch over from PCs to Apple computers....to heck with Microsoft.
