P.S. it's not written for the 7100 but is great for any DSLR user.
Welcome Jackie. I'm new too, from WI, and with a new D7100. Shortly after getting the 7100 I twisted a knee (no connection between the two events) so most of my shooting has been from my patio. I've been reading some great ideas on UHH and am chomping at the bit to get off the crutches! Someone on UHH recommended reading "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson so I put the user guide aside and started reading. It's a great refresher and tutorial and it's helped me understand the 7100 better.
On a ten day road trip around Andalusia, we stayed at 6 Paradors: Carmona, Cordoba, Granada (the Alhambra), Malaga, Rhonda and Arcos de la Frontera. We also stayed at Dos Hermanos in Seville. My wife passed away on April 6 and this trip was on her to-do list. We loved every minute of it. So much history and so many photo ops! We rented a car and drove ourselves so we really got to emerse ourselves in periphery of Spain. I think Ronda was my favorite.

Is there a counter on the Nikon 7000 or 7100 to show how many shots have been taken? I've seen some comments that indicate that the user knows how many times the shutter has cycled but I can't find that on the camera menu or in the book.
Thank you Rich for the kind words. I'm hoping that the D7100 will help me use the light a little better. I generally know what and when to shoot but the finer details will always warrant critique. And there's always the "I wish I'd thought of/tried that". When you stop being your own worst critic growth stops and stagnation sets in.
I've really enjoyed following the UHH posts for the past couple of weeks. I'm a reborn photog after a hiatus of about 30 years. I last seriously pursued this interest with a Minolta 35mm Maxxium SLR but then life got in the way. I've jumped back in with both feet and a D7100. It's a steep learning curve going from P&S to DSLR but I'm about ready to move on from just "taking pictures". Here's a couple from my P&S era. Hopefully, as I spend time with the D7100 and the UHH blog, I'll make some needed improvement.

I'm in pretty much the same boat. I used to shoot a lot with a Minolta Maxxim but that was umpteen years ago - at least 30. Now I'm jumping back in with both feet. Did a lot of online and in-the-shop research and decided to splurge for a D7100. Steep learning curve! I've also been reading and learning a lot on UHH. This is a great resource for every skill level but especially for the avid hobbiest. Right now I'm monitoring a Praying Mantis nest and can't wait to get some pics as they hatch.
