Hi all- next week we're going on a Rhine river cruise in Germany and will be seeing lots of old museums and churches. These generally are fairly dark inside, no flash allowed. Lighting a mix of natural thru stained glass windows, candles, some light bulbs. I know I'll need to crank up ISO (D7100) but what would be a good all-round white balance setting? We will be with tour walking groups so I can't stop for custom setting. Use Auto or Incandescent or what? Thanks for your help. Happy Thanksgiving!

I would shoot in auto WB because its too easy these days just to tweak it in aperture LR photoshop what have you! If you can take a light tripod use that so you can shoot at a decent f/8 for depth of field!

My macbook pro has malware I think. In safari I will go to a site and another site will come up, I will delete that and my site will be there. Even in email i cannot click on a link. If Im on facebook for eg I will click on a link and will go to mackeeper.com or some stupid site for a game. It will not do it all the time though just when it feels like it. Also sometimes when I use safari once then click on the safari icon at the bottom again I have to quit it before I can use it. I tried upgrading to mavericks but it didn't fix the problem. I dont want to have to delete the hardrive if I can help it.
I think its pointless upgrading to yosemite if mavericks didnt do it. Id appreciate it if anyones got any suggestions?

Hi...I thought I'd posted this earlier this week...but have not seen it listed here so will post again.

Recently my Fiance and I went on a leisurely photoshoot for fun and relaxation to one of our favorite places here in southern Maine. I should point out I have a mild case of Tourettes Syndrome with which my hand shakes occasionally and I use my tripod and release cable to get really clear photos.

We were shooting away when a couple approached us and the gentleman had a nice SLR in his hand. I said hello...nice day and then be got snobby and asked me...in a condescending voice..."why are you shooting in the bright sun with a tripod and cable release...it's probably 1/1000 second". I said "for stability". Before I had a chance to explain my issue...he said "get rid of that tripod and get a good one...throw it out"...a little puff of wind will blow it over"...and then walked off.

I have a relatively new MePhoto Roadtripper I got earlier this year and paid $200 for it...which on my budget is decent money.

Needless to say it put a damper on the shoot which we were just finishing anyway and I felt humiliated by his unnecessary comments. Once of out ear-range my Fiance called him a couple of names to me I won't write here...but it got me thinking...what did I do to deserve this? I was just being nice and got lambasted for it.

Lesson here...always take the high road...be friendly...and please don't make disparaging comments to anyone. Nobody deserves that.

For what it's worth...have a good day...and remember to please be kind to everyone.

Marc :D

He cant have been much of a photographer if he thinks there is no need for a tripod in bright sunlight. Any photographer in the know, knows what a tripod is for, even in bright sunlight. I mean you could have been doing anything like HDR or focus stacking or just for stability as you were doing or even for videoing or timelapse.

Hmm, well what does that mean as far as shooting? Daytime, sports , specifically when do you use it? Do you keep the mirror locked all of the time?

You mainly use it on still subjects. You cant use it on sports because you need to see through the view finder while shooting the action. Mirror lock up is used to minimize any camera shake while using slow shutter speeds to maximize sharpness as the mirror when in action on a slow shutter can cause a bit of blur. Use it for shooting macro if the subject is perfectly still and use it for landscapes but obviously you need to use a tripod and prefocus your shot first before locking up the mirror and you can only use manuel exposure. Which means you need to get a reading before mirror lock up and match the manuel reading to that. It is good also with long telephoto lenses but subject needs to be still. Dont bother using mirror lock up for the everyday shots that youd be using fast shutter speeds which is impossible anyway as you need to see what youre shooting. Also while using mirror lock up you need to use a digital shutter release cable or remote as fingering the shutter is defeating the purpose of using mirror lock up.

I am trying to photograph some martial arts and I set my camera but the settings changed and photos blurred. It was a fast action shot so I set my shutter speed to 1/500 and F4.5. I put my ISO to 400. These settings changed and pix blurred. I have a Nikon D5100. Here area few of the photos. What can I do to remedy this problem?

1/500th is a bit slow I think. If the guys are moving fast get your shutter speed to say around 1/1000th. Some of the problem may be focusing isssues. It takes a bit of practice to get them fast moving subjects sharp unless your camera and lens work together well in fast auto focus.

I see that is add on CL for a nikkor ED 300m f2.8
they are asking $600.00 for it and was wondering if the lens is worth it. I have several Nikon cameras D3200, d7100, and a D200. I know that it manual focus but I do not mind this. I will be using this with a older Nikon 2x. any thought on this would help. I have tried to att. a photo if that will help.
thanks

If it has no fungus you cant go wrong with it they are tack sharp lenses. Although if you are wanting it for wildlife you might be better looking for a 400 500 or 600 manuel focus for probably not much more than the $1K youve got. Even though you have a converter it is always best without it for sharper images.

Those sediments were laid before the mountains were pushed up. Certainly millions of years before the time you say was Noahs. As for Noah's flood - different types of animals lived in different parts of the world and still do. How did Noah race around the world collecting all these animals? The bible doesn't say he did. My explanation seems reasonable - but yours seems impossible.

Well you haven't obviously read my other posts. Nothing is impossible for God for he created everything. Noah didnt go around collecting animals, God by his power made them go into the ark. every Kind of animal would have been in the area. There was a lot more land before the global flood. After the flood there were still land bridges to other continents until the water rose covering them. Before the flood I doubt animals had even reached Australia or other parts yet. But if you dont believe the creation account then you probably wont believe this. Actually it was the flood that caused the mountains to rise. The flood as catastrophic as it was at around 2 miles deep wreaked havoc on the earth causing higher more rugged mountains than before.

I bought a refurbished Nikon D80 for about $300.00. I then sent it in to lifepixel.com to have it converted to infrared. The cost was, I believe, $325.00.
The turn around time for the conversion was about 12 days. I love it. No filters. I went out in my front yard and took a few snapshots, nothing special. The camera is set on black and white. I am looking forward to going up to Big Bear or Lake Arrowhead to take some landscape shots where there are not many people nor autos.

Which conversion did you do? Is the camera set on B+W or is the conversion B+W? or color?

I don't wish to discourage any one who has faith - but I can make a rainbow in my garden with a hosepipe. There have been plenty of floods around the world since Noah - or don't Tsunamis count? What about "hurricane" floods?

God Made the rainbow to work as a natural phenomena to happen where water falls against the sky. Yes there have been plenty of floods but only one global flood. Thats the one that laid all the layers of sediment in every country, on every high mountain, in every valley, even here in NZ

Interesting but he's wrong, the flood covered the whole earth not just a few thousand square km!

Yes - just as global warming will soon flood parts of the "whole earth" again - but "the world" was only the Middle East in biblical times - and perhaps the Med area and a bit of the East.

Id also like to add with ref to the bible account of the rainbow when God said he would put his bow in the sky as a promise he wouldn't flood the earth again. Now we have had plenty of floods since then so why would God put his bow in the sky if it was just a flood for a certain area? As we see the bow all over the earth when it rains is a sure sign it was global. other wise surely you would just see the rainbow in one location it doesn't make sense to even bother with a rainbow if thats the case!

Question: Do you like the 105G better than an 85mm? If so why? Thinking of buying one or the other but can't decide which.

Youd be better with the 105G as its a macro lens. Get the best of both worlds
