Are the 500mm lenses available on Amazon for around $150 worth bothering with?
Depends. I have 2. One is the mirror version. I have had fun with mine. Just don't pay that much and don't expect perfection. I paid $25.00 for my mirror lens on ebay. It's a "Phoenix" brand. Also, I use mine with a D90 and always on a tripod.
The truth is that there are so many and they are not connected. Everyone of them thinks they are in a world of their own and just like many of the other social laws like jaywalking, speeding etc. doesn't pertain to them because theirs is a special situation. it doesn't pertain to them until the actual ticket gets issued. Then it is one down and forever to go.
The draw back is: do you really want to fine people for using 911. That word will get out and there will be those that take it literally and not call when needed because they heard you can get fined.

This is a new camera to me. I like doing things manually, but I'm having a problem with iso. Every time I think I set iso from 80 and to 3200 it reverts back to iso 160 thru 1600. Can anyone help me thru this.
Have you read the manual concerning using the SX50 manually? :D
