FWIW, I don't know if you do Podcasts or not, but the iTunes store has a number of free Photoshop-related podcasts.

After much research I ended up with Canon SX50 and could not be happier.

Your photos are excellent. Thanks
PS: I would call the SX50 a 'bridge' camera and not a point and shoot.

You are correct.

Thanks. I wish I'd taken a better picture with a better camera, but the iPhone was all I had. If you look real close you can see the moon in the upper right.

Ditto. I like the second one also. Both are great, but the second is the best for me.

This is a sunrise I took with my iPhone the other day.

I just took delivery of a new Canon SX50 point and shoot. I have a Canon 7D but wanted a "carry everywhere" camera that is light and easy to carry every when when I don't want to lug around a bag of equipment. Today I drove around town and took some pictures of the local area, then ended up a a local wildlife preserve. I'm still very much in a learning mode as a photographer, but anxious to learn. Here are a few shots from today.

I just took deliver of my Canon SX50. Today I decided to just go out and about and see what I could find to take pictures of. Ended up at a local wildlife preserve. Here are a few pictures from today's adventure.

I just took delivery of an SX50 to use as an every day "carry always" camera. I have a Canon 7D also, but I wanted something small and light I could just have handy all the time. The pictures I've taken so far are just around the house and not very interesting - just snaps I made to start learning the camera. However, it does take very nice photographs. Later I'll try to post a few if I get anything worth sharing.

In the mean time, my impressions:

1. It does take great photos for what it is. I love that it will shoot RAW images!

2. The zoom is phenomenal

3. The Camera is very light and easy to carry (on the down side, it does feel a little flimsy)

4. Loads of features and settings for automated settings (Also can go full manual of course)

5. The flash has to be manually raised. Not a big deal and probably helps keep the weight down.

6. The camera is fairly small, with a small grip. I have fairly small hands and it even seems a little too small from me. If someone had larger hands, the grip might seem a bit inadequate.

7. I had read somewhere that it didn't come with a charger. Mine did come with a charger. The charger does not give any indication of the percentage of charge like my Canon 7D charger does. This charger shows you only that it is fully charged of not fully charged. If it is less than 100% you have no idea whether it is 10% charged or 99% charged.

8. At ISOs above 400 you start getting a good deal of noise.

9. The EVF is "ok." I had read bad reviews about the EVF, but I didn't find it all that bad. Certainly adequate for composing a shot. The fact that it isn't a super high resolution image isn't a big deal for me. It is adequate for the task IMHO.

10. The fully articulating LCD is a very nice feature.

11. It has an optional "Focus area zoom" that will cause the area of focus to enlarge (if you have that feature selected)

12. The main selector wheel on the back of the camera takes a little getting used to. This is because it is "multi-function". The outer wheel is rotated to select a menu item's settings, with the center part of the control being a push-to-set" button. Also, you must push the top, bottom, left or right sides of the whole thing to select main menu functions. Sometimes I find myself pushing/changing a selection inadvertently while trying to rotate the wheel, or vice versa. Like I said, it takes a little getting used to.

So far I really like the camera, and can't wait to take it out and try it out in earnest.

I think I figured out what I did. I had uploaded the pictures in question while on the road, using my laptop (MacPro). I did, in fact, use iPhoto to upload them. Recently I decided I did not need all the photos I had on my Laptop as long as I had them on my main iMac, so, I deleted most of the pictures from my iPhoto on my MacBook Pro, including the Flickr photos. It was some time later that I tried to access these pictures using my iMac, but of course they were gone. I think by deleting them from my MacBook, sone that was the computer that I had uploaded then with, it also deleted them from my Flickr account sone, as opined out here, they are in sync.

The good news is, I have all the pictures still on my iMac in a separate folder, so I didm';t really loose anything.

If there are any Flickr users here, maybe someone can suggest what might have happened to one of my photo sets recently. I had takes a bunch of pictures up at Angel Fire New Mexico at the BMX bike competition. I used iPhoto to "share" them to a set on Flickr. These pictures had been there for months, but this morning I went to look at them and all but one photograph had disappeared. Either I was hacked or I did something or have some setting that caused the pictures to vanish.

Anyone here who uses Flickr have any idea how such a thing might happen?

Thanks for the welcome folks. I was going to post a link to a set of pictures I have (had) on Flickr, but I just discovered that, somehow, all my pictures except one have been deleted from this set. I have no idea why! I know I didn't delete them. I'm wondering if I was hacked or if there is some other possible reason why 60+ pictures that have been there for months are now suddenly gone (except one picture)? I'll post a question in the appropriate forum.

A friend of mine, we'll call him Dave, told me about this forum, so I thought I'd check it out. I have been interested in photography since the mid-1980's when I picked up a Canon T-70 while deployed to Greece when I was active duty AF. I bought my first Digital SLR back around 2004. This was the Canon Digital Rebel (I still have it) touted as the first Digital SLR for consumers with a price point under $1000 (Well, $999 is under $1000).

Anyway, it was a good camera for just shooting family and friends and scenery, but it was far from a serious camera. About a year ago, I started getting the bug that I wanted to get serious about learning photography and I decided that in order to do that I would need to get a serious camera (at least more serious than the 6MP Rebel I had). After a lot of research on the WWW, I decided to get a Canon 7D with the kit lens. I have since obtained one additional lens - the Canon 70-200mm f4 "L" series. (Now I want more "L" glass - wow what a difference!). I also bought a really good tutorial to learn the basics of this very powerful camera.

Most recently, I decided I wanted a good "point and shoot" camera to carry around everywhere when I may not have the 7D with all the lenses handy. So, for an every day "keep it handy" camera, I just ordered the Canon SX50 HS. My friend Dave has one and sings its praises, so I did some research and ended up getting the same. (I was torn between the SX50 and the Panasonic FZ200)

Have not taken delivery yet, but look forward to trying it out!

Cheers
