I love old houses too. There is a group on flickr. I wasn't sure if I was allowed to post the link.

Loved living in Fairbanks in the 70's. Midnight Sun baseball game was our highlight of the summer. Great photo's, they bring back some fond memories.

I rarely use auto ISO, I've never even considered it in manual mode.

Absolutely no doubt in my mind the answer is Glass. I would just be sure to get full frame glass, they'll work just fine on your T5i and when/if you do eventually go to a Full Frame camera the lens will work. Don't be like me and think you'll never go to a full frame camera. It's what I thought initially and bought lens based on that. Well, guess what, yep, went to a full frame camera and most of the lenses that I had would not work.

Enjoy your new Camera.

Thanks, I wanted a crop sensor for wildlife and was considering the 7D but couldn't pass up the price. Plus, I like some of the features of the 80D way better.

I just got my 80D in today from Canon Refurb and it looks fantastic, not even a smudge on it. Mine came with a "kit" lens which I'll probably just resell for $50 or so. Comparing the price to B&H, I saved over $500 buying the refurbished. The camera is basically brand new, I was told the shutter count was 726 which means to me that is was an probably an overstock item just like the person that I talked to in Customer service said. I called them because they had 2 different 80D's, one with a kit lens for $799 and one without also for $799 and I was wondering if there was a difference in the camera that was included. That's when she told me they were all basically the same. I ordered it on July 4th because they had an extra $50 discount going until July 5th. It arrived today which is less than a week from ordering. I could not be happier.

[quote=ronf78155]I too am looking at a refurb but all come with a lens which I don't need. Also looking at a battery grip[/q]

Refurb is the way to go. I just got my 80D in today and it is pristine, not a mark or smudge or anything to be found on it. Looks and acts (in my really brief tests today) brand new. The price was $799 for the body only and they also had one for $799 with the 18-55 kit lens that I have absolutely zero use for but bought the one with the lens. I'll probably always buy refurb from now on.

Very interested in this thread since I had the sigma contemporary because a lot of the reviews I read had it optically as good as the sport but I thought it was rather soft and also very heavy to handhold. I sold it. Im now considering the Sigma 100-400.

Boy have I been there! I now have cards in both of our trucks, my backpack, hydration pack and fanny packs (I hike a lot). Glad to see people helping each other out without expecting payment. There is still hope for us 🙂

I have purchased a ton of Canon L series lenses from Canon Refurbished and they look and preform as brand new. Saved a few hundred bucks on each lens and it has a warranty as if a new item purchased. Some even had a spill and drop coverage thrown in. As for as a camera body I will assume that they are just like as brand new and have been thoroughly checked and rechecked before they go out of the factory. If you are concerned about shutter count I would give Canon a call and see what they have to say. Good luck and lets us know how you make out.

I will definitely post about the whole experience. Thanks for the information.
