I bought these units as a remote trigger for my Canon 5DS R and MkIV with the intention of later using it for remote flash with my Canon Speedlight 550EX. I'm now on to that and I have got the flash firing remotely. However, it seems only to work in manual mode. When all is set up and switched on I don't see the usual flash icon in the viewfinder even though the flash will fire when the shutter is pressed. Additionally, the remote flash doesn't react to a change in the zoom on the lens. So am I to understand that with this setup I can't get ETTL flash, that there is no exposure communication between the camera and remote flash and so I must work in full manual - or have I missed something vital in the setup somewhere?

Since upload speeds are limited to megabits and not gigabits, it seems like it would take an inordinate amount of time to backup several thousand photos to the cloud. What experiences do you all have in doing this and do different services provide different results? Thanks for your input. Right now I'm thinking of using Carbonite.

I use Carbonite. I have 4.4TB stored there at the moment. I have a fast internet connection which gives me 10 Mbs/sec upload and it took a month uploading 24 hours a day. Now it just ticks over mirroring my home system. I also have all that, twice, on external hard disks here. Ultra careful I am! Carbonite is OK, their support is good. Their cost is reasonable. The main downside is that anything deleted on the home system is only retained by them for 30 days. It could take much longer than that to discover you accidentally deleted an important file.

I'd crop the bottom 15-20% and pull the LH side in a fraction and the remaining OOF stuff is OK then IMHO. I like the textured background. Is that a PP filter?

Brain, I already responded to that post and told you that you were not like him! In fact I complimented you! Go back and reread my replies!

That wasn't my point but never mind.

Brian, your not the type of critic I'm talking about.... you share your photos and good ones they are! I knew this photo would draw out the idiots who love to complain and would be better served critiquing their own photos!
They always offer up the negative and never the positive! I'm an armature point and shoot type of guy who loves playing with the software! I push as far as I can but never seek perfection!

SS I fail to see how bercher's comment can be seen as sniping. He thought the filter makes the skin of the man look unappealing. As a matter of fact, that was my first reaction too but bercher posted first so I didn't duplicate the comment. If I had posted first would I have received the same reaction?

Berchman, I knew someone would call this one out! And you are the typical type of person who does this! Never shows a photo on UHH, except for one time, and is quick to scorn at ever chance!
I could care less what you and those like you think! Get a life!

A totally uncalled for comment. Were you only asking for compliments?

Comments were invited. I didn't see berchman's comment about an unappealing filter as 'finger wagging' it was an opinion, as valid as anyone else's and quite helpful. As it happens I agree the filter makes the guy's skin look very unappealing and, if you look at much of my work, I'm definitely not a flat image reality type of person!

In 2000 we did a motorcycling trip around California, Nevada and Arizona. When we visited Grand Canyon we took a fixed wing sightseeing flight which I found disappointing photographically which coloured my decision this year I am sure.

That's very kind of you to say so, Erich. Thank you. Yes, I did take many of the pictures Falls but, whilst they are hugely impressive, I don't think still photos can really do it full justice from the public walkways. I am not a video person but I feel that video is a more appropriate medium for this spectacle and would have captured the Falls better. If I go back I will do a bit of video practice in advance. In some ways, I do regret not taking a flight over but it seemed so extremely expensive for a very short time and only being able to shoot through plexiglass.
