Always amazes me what beauty there is in the fierce desert!! I totally get the frustration with your mother - very human... Yet in spite of whatever, I think what you did is what we call love...:)

Nature Photographer - An issue comes quarterly. I find it very educational on several levels, as well as stunning photos.

The New Mexico Cancer Center is an institution serving and treating cancer patients from all over New Mexico. The have a Foundation that sponsors a rather spectacular event. 4 times a year, they select artists of all varieties to submit pieces, then the work is shown for 3 months, taken down and replaced. I was overwhelmed that about 2 dozen of my prints are now displayed at this Center. The idea is that the works are all for sale and a 40% donation of proceeds go to the foundation. Some of the quarterly categories are pros, some are rookies - like me - I've never had anything like this before! Most or all were taken at the Bosque del Apache. Regulars of UHH will know the BdA, and even perhaps remember a few of the photos I've posted over the years. If you care to take a look, here's the link:

Arrived in New Zealand on the 6th March, was going to be here for two months, but due to Covid19, thats going to be spent in lockdown! Only got to see a tiny fraction of what I had planned. So I thought I'd share these!

I'm curious...where are you locked down? Hotel? Other?

Nice set.

These are exceptional photos! I find that I am drawn into each one in a contemplative sort of way. Very impressive! I also love, "...my sap is rising" quote!

Cranes' dancing is beautiful!! I've often wished to anthropomorphize them and get the words to the tune and dance... Often one will pick up a stick, toss it in the air, retrieve it, and toss it again and again... I think it means "...if you ever drop, I'll be there to pick you up...".

The emailed daily digest contains only 30 of the 50 - 100 topics posted to Photo Gallery every day. The ones that make it into the digest are a combination of timing and day-of-posting activity (more comments received on day 1 means more likelihood of being in the digest. There are variations of the digest, also, because of the worldwide membership and timing of posts).

The way to see the entire list of daily postings is to use "Newest Topics." This is a link at the top of any UHH page and contains only those sections to which a user is subscribed.

There are about 35 forums on UHH. See "all sections" at this bottom of this page to subscribe to ones of interest. New users are automatically subscribed to only the original six or seven sections. The rest are managed by volunteers and are relatively small traffic-wise; most are specialized.

Unfortunately, as you have discovered, many prefer "UHH Lite" and allow the system to direct their activity (choose for them), and some get downright cranky if their morning email doesn't show up. Folks, UHH is a website that you can access directly any time of day or night
The emailed daily digest contains only 30 of the 5... (show quote)

Wow! Thanks Linda! I didn't know that, and I've been on here for years!

This is a VERY rare bird in Washington... only the third recorded sighting in the state. These birds are native to Asia; they breed all across Siberia, and winter in eastern China and Korea. Once in a great while, one will stray during the fall migration, or get blown off course by a storm, and wind up in North America, but only rarely will one be seen in the continental US. This one has been hanging around in Woodland, and I went down on Saturday, and again today, to try to get photos. Saturday was cloudy, and the bird was high up in some bare trees, so my first photos were less than satisfactory. I tried again today with nice weather, but alas, only was able to get the bird's head and parts of its body. The little stinker just does NOT like to be seen in the open, it seems... :( In any case, here are the two best glimpses I got of this super-rare visitor...

Very Cool!! If you ever want to know if there are birders near you, post a sighting of a bird that's not supposed to be there. People will come out of the woodwork! Better be right though... Oh and by the way, can you please explain the guidance system that bird will use to get back on course and find its way to Siberia?

Sunday afternoon I was sitting in my living room (in a large apartment complex in the city!)and heard crows making a huge ruckus outside. I checked it out and 3 or 4 crows were all looking at a near by tree, and this is what they were disturbed about... The owls, however, were not in the least bit bothered. Very excited! Hoping they find the neighborhood friendly enough to raise a family...
