How do you leave your photos to your heirs, or even to yourself after you no longer can take photos?

With more than 15,000 photos in Lightroom, that have involved many year-hours of editing, what solution are there to leave them for the future? Adobe say when you stop your subscription the photos remain in their un-edited state, in the folders originally set up. (for many of us that is date folders by years).

A less than satisfactory solution, which would take lots of work, is to export all of them, perhaps to a new file structure along the lines of your "collections" (if every photo is in a collection) but even then you loose the ability to search on all text like key words etc.

Anyone with a solution along the lines of a search and read-only, non subscription solution for years of work?

To finartphotography...

I was about to send slides to DPSdave. Was this his low priced service (~13 cents) or his high priced service (~22 cents)? Thanks for your help.

I am a MAC person and gave up on a mouse years ago. What I use is a Apple Trackpad in place of a mouse. It is a different solution I find much faster and easier after a little learning curve.

The Trackpad is similar, but slightly larger, than those funny little pads found on laptops and works well along side a keyboard where I can operate the shortcuts in many programs. It works well for photos in Lightroom and laying out my occasional piece in Photoshop. It also is quick and easy for the photo books I have made with Blurb.

I used a Wacom tablet for a number of years, but found it slow and clumsy for anything but drawing. So now if something requires some drawing, even a photo or just a drawing that moves to photoshop, I use a large iPad with a pen for that creative portion. Two drawing programs, very inexpensive and powerful, are ArtRage and more recently, Procreate really get the job done.

The problem of fully discharging them, is you likely will not be able to charge them again with their associated charger. The reason is the charger usually has a high current limit to prevent the high current from starting a fire in the battery which a fully discharged battery will draw. So no current is available from the charger and the battery remains useless.

If you could get regulated voltage source that would start the charge (current limited, but a slightly higher voltage than the battery uses) it should work. I haven't tried this yet, and I sit with an expensive radio receiver/transmitter with a new battery that I let get fully discharged, refusing to buy another battery as the supplier insists I must.

I would continue to shoot with available light and opening your aperture wide to un-focus the background, leaving the subject mostly sharper. If you are unhappy with the color use Lightroom or most any editor to adjust the color temperature in post-processing.

I moved from an iMac 27 with 24 Mb Ram, to the new iMac 24 (M1) with only 16 Mb of Ram.
Limited use with Lightroom, particularly going back and opening older photos (10 yrs): the new machine "pops" those files open compared to the older 27". Perception is much faster.

Thank you for the encouragement.

There were no problems. Once I realized you download the Cloud app, and from that you load and install LrC, Ps, etc it was a breeze. LrC found all my files by itself, and I was immediately in business.

Will LRc download find my catalog and files if I use the default download settings? (iMac Computer)

If not, what do I need to do before the download to the old 6.14 program to connect things up? (about 14K photos)

LRc resides on my computer right? I want this version rather than LR cloud version?

All the posts refer to Lightroom and Photoshop. Does Photoshop also download when you buy/download the new monthly cost version?

Thanks for any help--I didn't find answers on the Adobe Web Site.

One at a time for 12,000? Is there a mass process?

Is there a way to mass-save my photos, with all the edits I have made in Lightroom, so they would be viewable in all their beauty by my heirs after I pass?

Question: by any chance were you running an older Lightroom rather than the subscription model?
What MAC operating system before and now if it is an older Lightroom?
My concern: I am running Lightroom (6.14) on Catalina which supposedly was not supposed to happen so I am curious if you moved an old version up to the new Operating System.

Over years you have posted dazzling flower photos. For the longest time I thought you just caught natural light and setting right, but now I am beginning to wonder if that is so.

Could you let us in on how you really achieve these fantastic photos?

I have carefully stored these for 20 years, but I believe they are still fine. They need a new home with someone who has a use for them. $100 for both.

Pictures of Sophie and Sadie at 2 months old, when we received them, and now when they are 8 months old. We think they will grow a lot more in the year to come. Getting the two to "pose" is the real subject.

I upgraded to Catalina and found that LR 6.14 ran ok, but had to force quit LR on exit.

Not sure when, but one day I reloaded LR from my back up, choosing a time stamp before before Catalina was installed and it has worked fine. LR is 32 bit, but the loading process must call some 16 bit instructions that Catalina does not support.

No guarantees, but it seems that only very old groups of photos that I re-open and then re-edit seem to trigger this need to force quit LR afterwords. The force quit does not seem to change anything, anyway, even if it only occurs on very old processed photos.
