I would like input from folks who use a graphics tablet instead of a mouse to post process their images. Is there a great advantage over using a mouse and what are the advantages? Thinking of purchasing one. Thanks.
I've used the Wacom Intuos for a number of years. The pen is far more precise than a mouse so you can truly adjust details. I would never go back to a mouse.
Have been using a Wacom Intuos Pro for quite a while now. Once you've got the buttons mapped to your favorite PS functions, it is a big time saver and as dbjazz mentioned, very precise. It is BlueTooth enabled with an internal usb rechargeable battery, so you can use it any way that's comfortable for you.
I use an XPen. It has 8 programmable buttons and the same or better pen specs depending on the version you buyand is basically a less expensive version of the Wacom. I will say bigger is not better in my opinion but you can nap the area to use if you don't want to use the entire available area when I got mine I thought a bigger one would be better not really It took a bit to get used to but yes it's better than sliced bread once you get the hang of it and get it set up. I love my XPen

I have a wacom tablet, medium, but have never been successful making the switch from a mouse.
I would love to sell it. I am the original owner, I have the box.

I use a Wacom medium size and use both the pen and the Wacom mouse. Very useful.

It's always good idea to check out the options before you make the commitment. I procrastinated for a time and saw the tablets in the background as I watched tutorials, and finally succumbed.
I do a lot of intricate cutting during some of my work and the mouse just wasn't making the grade, so I purchased the Wacom Intuos Pro, small. I still can't divorce myself from the mouse so I swap them back and forth as my work dictates. Lately, I've been testing my workspace by placing a mousepad on the surface of my Wacom and using the programmed buttons along with the mouse, then remove the pad and use the Wacom as needed.

Just asking: can a table function do as well?
Once you try the Wacom, you won't want to go back.

I'm not sure if you are familiar with affinity photo but it is a copy of photo shop. The ability to select or cut out as you say is amazing. It's super easy to select a person for example and quickly refine the selection to include all the flyaway hairs ect. For selection or cutting out it's faster and easier than a pen. I live the pen for blending mask ect. Anyway I'm not suggesting you change your methods just if you use Photoshop try the refine selection mask. It's amazing as is affinity photo refine selection
Question - how easy is it to change from Wacom to mouse and vice versa?

They seem to be great for some folks but I didn't really get 'into' mine after trying for some time. I'm not at all 'artistically gifted' and I find that those who are get along with them much better. Just not for me.

Thanks for the reply Drbobcameraguy, I too use Affinity Photo and am familiar with the tools available for masking. I just need a cutout tool when it's difficult to distinguish between the foreground (subject) and the background.

I bought a Wacom a number of years ago and just couldn't get comfortable with it.
It didn't go to waste. I gave it to a friend of mine who said she would never give it back, which was fine with me. She said it just felt natural in her hand.
The only thing for the OP to do is buy one from a store that has a good return policy and try it!
