I have had a 6 pound STAR-D "professional" tripod for over 40 years, but because of the weight I often don't bother to carry it around. I have been looking and trying to research tripods, but that's difficult on the internet because there are so many products, and apparently some of the brands with good reputations are now selling cheaper copies of their former models, apparently with a drop in quality.

I'm looking to purchase a quality tripod, but is the Gitzo GK1555T-82TQD worth the close to $1000 price, when something like MeFOTO Classic Carbon Fiber Globetrotter Travel Tripod is available for a third of the price? I don't want to spend over around $500, but don't want to feel I compromised on weight or quality to save a few $'s

I will likely be using either the Nikon 28-300 zoom, or the 18-35 mm for landscapes. Camera with either lens is under 4 pounds, but the 28-300 does get a bit front heavy when zoomed out to 300mm.

Santa Claus brought me a Mefoto Classic Carbon Fiber Globetrotter travel pod. I am impressed, it works well for me as my longest lens is a 50-300 mm zoom. You Can purchase a longer mounting rail to help balance your rig if needed.

Have you used the eye dropper tool to custom set your white balance? It works for both Raw and JPG files. Click on it and locate an area of the photo that is either black, white or neutral gray click on the area. LR will then attempt to adjust the WB parameters, you can then use the sliders to tweak the settings, revert back to the original or keep the settings if you desire.

Jerry,

I have finally had time to access my Mac. When you try to unlock Users and Groups you will need to use the password you use to log on to the Mac and you should be identified as the current user. This should be true for all locks you encounter for various tasks.

The Password you have created using your apple ID will let you log on to your ICloud account, Ibook, Apps store and iTunes. Anywhere you may want to spend money.

Hope you resolved your issue by now though.

Good luck,
jan

Itā€™s your addmin password for your Mac not the Apple account. I hope this helps. If you have forgotten it you may have to retreive it through terminal, if you donā€™t need the password for that too. If so Iā€™ ll try and find out.

I can not add anything else but want to watch post.

I'm looking for a small but sturdy tabletop tripod. Actually I would be using it mostly for ground level shots and flower closeups. Needs to be able to support a D810 and Tamron 90 lens at least. Thanks for your input!

PS - This one looks like a possibility: https://www.adorama.com/sunt1a11t5.html

Here are two suggestions, first the Vanguard Altra Pro offers legs that will go almost flat and a removable center column that can also pivot. https://www.vanguardworld.us/photo_video_us/products/tripods/alta-pro-264ab-100.html#go-sectionTop

The second is a Platypod https://platypod.com/

Just to see, I Googled ā€œPhotos New York 1920ā€ and came up with a selection. Pinterest appears to have over 100 such photos. I donā€™t know what it costs to get access though.

Good luck.

I am not new to photography. The one thing that often surprises me, is how rude, nasty and mean some of the people...mostly men...are on this site. I tend to picture an old man, in his underwear, alone, lonely and posting negative comments.

Some people feel they have to criticize, insult, make rude remarks, make fun of, etc, when people post something. They do this even if they aren't even interested in the topic.

This is not always a friendly site. There are people that are very helpful, but the rude ones take away from that.

"Whatever you do, don't look in your manual or visit the Nikon site."
"I've always wondered how the human can be so naĆÆve, such that their brain thinks $174.99 is far less expensive than $175. "
"I think too many sellers on UHH have an inflated opinion of what their old, unwanted equipment is worth."

I would like to request in 2018, that those people hold back on their negative comments.
If you don't have something nice to say, don't post anything.

There are newbies here, to both photography and to the use of the computer. Yes, it is easy to say, *just google it* but there is a way to say it without being mean about it. That might not be the first thing someone thinks about when they are trying to get some information.

We all share a love of photography, lets be kind to one another, be helpful, or don't help at all.

Wishing all a Healthy & Happy Holiday.

Roni,

Thank you for taking the time to prepare this post and for the good sentiments.

I have learned a lot from the UHH community over the last several years and want to thank all of the knowledgeable members for taking the time to share and help. As to the negative posters I treat that like the chaff when harvesting wheat, discard it and move on.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays with best wishes for a very Happy New Year to all.

I use the LR import to folder YYYY/mm-dd format. Each photo is renamed using a ā€œcustom-camera image numberā€ format where the custom field contains the primary subject name. After importing I rename each folder to add a description to the date, i.e. 04-21_Yellowstone. I have only one LR catalog with all images and it resides in a dedicated drop box account. I use collections and keywords for further organizing.

The new subscription LR CC Clasic is not a cloud storage system. It still put your photos on the hard drive you designate. You need to have active backup systems running to backup both your photo collection and just as important your LR catalog file.

Oh no in the middle of printing my Christmas Calendars my Canon Pixma iP 4820 has died. The error message is B200 if that means anything.I have tried unplugging and re-plugging and turning it on and off in the hope the orange light would not flash anymore, but sadly nothing.
If any one has any ideas please let me know.
Also should I be able to afford a new one they all seem to be wireless. My lap top is at least five years old, would I be able to hook up a wireless model.
Thanks in advance.

I have had this occur on two Canon printer, it means remove and replace the entire printer. Check with Canon, you may get a discount on a new printer. After my second such failure I switched to Epson and havenā€™t look back.

from my D850. The files transfer and they appear as NEF files, but no thumbnails.

I've done all the updates and refuse to go to the Adobe monthly rip-off plan.

Any suggestions?

I am sorry to hear that you are having issues with your older versions of PS and LR. But, I fail to see that the Adobe annual subscription is a rip off. I started with PSE version 2. I dutifully upgraded annually at about $70 per year. It seemed evertime I upgraded I had to reorganize my photos. I always wanted to try PS but could not justify the cost. Now I have both LR and PS for an additional $50 per year and donā€™t have to reorganize my collection when I get a new upgrade. I think it is a hell of a deal.

I jumped off the deep end and straight into the rabbit hole. Signed up for Light Room and Photoshop. It should be interesting seeing as how I've been using PS Elements. My last experience with PS was PS 7, so its been awhile, wish me luck.

You should consider checking out the Laura Shoe LR Video Tutorials. She does an excellent job and the price is very reasonable.

I had the same issue in 75 when I switched from my old Kodak Retina to a new Minolta SLR. The Kodak spooling method was intuitive but not the Minolta. I am truly sorry you had to relearn the tensioning lesson, something I donā€™t miss about film.

I sympathize, we all make them and automatic spellchecking often exacerbates the results. But, it provides additional opportunities for the english majors to add comments.šŸ˜œ
