The Canon (please note spelling) and Nikon camera bodies do not share a common lens mount. You cannot use the same lens on both cameras. Stick with Nikon as a choice for a new camera.

Sounds like a good decision. I don't know how many people in this forum know of Bryan Peterson. He is a professional photographer. Prolific author. Has a variety of business concerns in the photography environment. I'm sure his knowledge pales in comparison to some in this forum. I am currently reading his book; Understanding Exposure, Fourth edition. On the front cover, he clearly states; How to Shoot Great Photographs with Any Camera. The word....Any.. says a lot. I think you made the right decision.

Abandoned on the Prairies: Two Old Churches
