I may be misunderstanding what you want but this is what I would do.
First set the camera to back button focus.
Set the camera to a single focus point.
Set the focus mode to AF-C.

Then put your eye at the viewer, place the focus point box on your subject, hit the back button focus with your thumb. and when you get the composition you want press the shutter.
Done

Google back botton focus for how to move focus control to the AF/mf button.

That is routine...but what I am referring to here is the new LIVE VIEW TRACKING where the camera tracks the target, even when your finger is off the shutter..a little white box outlines the tracked spot.

First questions is whether you installed the new firmware. (The real-time tracking wasn't added until July.)

If you are using an AF point, you should be able to place the point over the subject and half-press the shutter. At that point, the camera will not only start tracking the AF subject, but will track eye distance if available. So if the eye pops into frame and back out, it will switch eye-af on and off.

My A9 has a lot of trouble with this in low light, and in situations where I am using zone AF (once it acquires a subject, it sticks with it, but you never know what it is going to acquire).
First questions is whether you installed the new f... (show quote)

I am talking about live view TRACKING...when active there is a small white box that tracks the target, turns green with half press. It continues to track even with your finger off the shutter...

UPDATE:
Sorry, 'Realtime Tracking Autofocus' is a feature I was not familiar with. Found this article.
https://www.imaging-resource.com/articles/lets-talk-about-sonys-new-real-time-tracking.
The article does mention that the feature is a bit buggy or slow when viewed though the A6400's EVF so it must be at least possible. Seems to work much better on the A9.[/quote]

Thanks!...however the real time tracking has to be started. I can get it going by touching the screen to indicate object to be tracked and then can look through eyepiece where tracking continues..BUT...if tracking is not underway and I look through the viewfinder there is no way that I can find to START tracking with eye to finder. Half pressing shutter starts eye af, etc but as soon as you release pressure it goes away. With real time tracking it continues to track subject, even when your finger is off the shutter button.

Have you tried to assign this as a custom function to one of the programmable buttons?

I don't think that it is possible. I called Sony support and spent 45 frustrating minutes trying to get the agent to understand how the A9 works and what real time AF Tracking is. They have promised a phone call within 24 hours...we will see. I just need someone who is expert with either the A6400 or the A9 to let me know, "can you START tracking with your eye to the viewfinder?"

The only way I have been able to start AF tracking on Sony A9 and A6400 is by touching the LED screen. I would really like to start tracking while looking through the viewfinder....is there a way to do this?

Looks right on, however you are so far away from the target, the depth of field is so great that it may make it difficult to identify the exact focus spot.
Remember geometry is key. You must have the lens perfectly horizontal and vertically aligned. The center of your target must be aligned exactly with the center of the lens barrel. I found a laser pointer very helpful in getting everything lined up correctly. If a lens is perfectly centered the horizontal lines going up the slope should be equally in or out of focus on each side of the zero line. The target also must be absolutely at 90 degrees to the lens horizontal axis. It is quite tedious to set this up correctly if you want results that are meaningful.

One last thing, it is readily apparent that your target is not centered on the lens and sensor (it is clearly off to the right side.) Get closer, align carefully.

Got the answer I needed...I had to download the language files to get instant translation. Appreciate help above.

One of these might be good:

Thanks..have tried them and still the same problem...there is no "instant" translation but rather you have to photograph with camera, then rub your finger over text to be translated, then wait for the text to be translated. I recall using an app several years ago that was like in video mode, instantly on the screen changing the text from foreign language to English. It was amazing but I can't find anything like it now.

Planning trip to Europe and need advice concerning an app that will translate signs, menus, etc in real time using the camera on my Samsung7. For some reason Google Translate doesn't work (it asks me to highlight text then works from there). Years ago I had an ap that was amazing...instantly changing foreign text into English using the phone's camera. It was so convenient to be in a restaurant and just scan the menu with my phone and like magic the foreign words and phrases were changed into English. Anything like this available?

I'll keep my clubs in the car just in case I wander into that area! If you come to PA, you should try Morgan Hill. I hate the course but continue to play it because I like the challenge even though I do poorly there. It is all hills and seldom does a ball rest in a perfectly flat spot. The offset is that the scenery is second to none and on Golfnow I get some good prices to play there. The course is very well maintained, just a tough place to play.

Thanks! Here is one more of me taken by my friend...the 8th hole of the Cholla Course (there are two courses, each great buy Cholla in a class of it's own). This was perhaps one of the best shots of my life time, the only time i reached this par 5 in 3 (550 treacherous yards). If you look way high in the sky you can actually see the tiny ball on its way to the green.
Second shot was taken after a thunderstorm rolled through late in afternoon. You will never mistake this for Pennsylvania! (I lived in Philly for 5 years in 1969-74 before golf)

Glorious day yesterday, golf outing with my buddy John. My favorite course...all desert, no homes (on reservation). If you come to Arizona and play golf you must try this layout.

I have had same issue with two Canon printers..Pixma pro 9000 and same printer II version. Currently I have the Pro-100 and no issues (yet). I also use the cheap ink and have wondered if it may be less "pure" and subject to some residue deposit in the head. Anyway, the last printer purchase Pro - 100 I got for $80 brand new in box on Craigs list! That was cheaper than a Canon supply of ink. It has worked fine for a year now. Worth checking Craigs List if you live in a large metropolitan area. Canon apparently bundled the printer with camera equipment and a lot of folks dispose of the huge printer.

Nice shot. I have a friend who lives in southern Utah, so anything taken in Utah tends to grab
my attention.

Thanks for taking a look. Very unusual Spring here in Logan.
