Yeah, that one makes more sense than all the others, a brake adjustment and/or service tool. I actually have a modern day hook tool that is designed for removal and installation of springs in drum brakes.

That ticks all the boxes for me, well done folks!

A friend who has an antique business says it is a combination tool for removing the hub cap and removing a lug nut and that the hook is for helping to put on chains on old cars.

I bow to your friends knowledge, but the "lug nut" being only 1/2" square wouldn't hold a large wheel from say "T" model. As it is cast I wouldn't like to apply much pressure on it to tighten or remove a wheel, plus you could not get any leverage because of its length. Maybe the motorist took more risk in those days. Most of the wheel spanners are made of mild steel as cast would break. Still to show a few gents that own/owned older vehicles so sooner or later I will identify it's correct use.

I had a tool similar to this. The hooked end was used with a screw jack. The flat blade was used to pry hubcaps off, and as lever to turn the circular part of the jack, which the hook grabbed, and turn the gears that in turn turned on the acme thread to raise the jack. The only difference is the configuration of the socket. Mine was sized to fit the hex lug nuts on the wheel. It was a British car.

I won't be getting under a car with a jack that used this tool. It is only 6 1/4" long. You won't get much leverage with it. The eBay post is identical but the discription doesn't ring true. I have bikes too and I won't be jacking them up with it. I think the brake adjuster is the closest, maybe hubcap remover, square drive to adjust the shoes and the hook to pull the return spring back on the shoes after replacement.

Well now I am more intrigued! If you guys/ gals can't identify this it must be rear indeed. I'll be seeing some old timers tomorrow, Anzac Day here in Australia, so I'll show it around and maybe find some clues. Thanks everyone for their input but don't stop now, I can't sleep! Lol

10 mm across the flats on the square pretty small lug nuts! But as I have said I have no idea. Thought it might have something to do with shearing (sheep), but i couldn't find anything that resembled it on Google images.

Not a trick question as I have no idea what this is. It was presented at our car club meeting as a mystery item and so far no one has identified it. I'm in Oz so could be from UK or Oz. No marking that I can find.
